ENGLISH

In the practice of Ashtanga Yoga, we always start with the performance of the sun salutations (Surya Namaskar), as a possibility to warm up our body for the postures that will be done later and also as a way to properly synchronize our breathing with the movement of our whole body. This synchronization is the Vinyasa.

Sun salutation A, we perform it 5 to 10 times keeping in mind our intention for the day's practice: to calm our mind and heal our body. Then we move on to the posture that will be explained today; Utthita Trikonasana, the triangle posture in extension.

About Utthita Trikonasana:

Performing this posture every day, following the A & B Sun Salutation, allows for the reduction of fat around the waist. It strengthens the muscles of the back, hips and legs.

In case our postural condition presents deviations, it allows us to align the skeletal system, thus achieving a greater stretching of our spine and straightening the back.

It also improves the digestive process and the problems that may be suffered as a result of constipation, as well as those of respiratory origin.

Doing Utthita Trikonasana every day helps to prevent throat diseases and also relieves throat problems that already exist.

It tones our nervous system and at the end of the posture, if properly rested (for about 5 minutes), lying on the floor, allows us to balance our sympathetic and parasympathetic systems, giving us a dose of activation of the mind with a subsequent relaxation of the body.

Performing Utthita Trikonanasa A & B:

In the first variation Utthita Trikonasana A the posture is performed while exhaling lowering laterally with leg and arm on the equal sides, that is, we descend towards the right with the right hand positioning it on the right foot or on the ankle, if we are starting.

Meanwhile the left arm is raised vertically, and if we do not have pain in the neck, we turn our head and gaze towards the hand that is above (in case of pain, we look at the hand below), this posture can be done between 5 and 25 breaths.

Then we go up inhaling to the neutral posture (central posture in the image below).

And then, we descend to the left side while exhaling, lowering left hand on left foot or ankle, raising right arm vertically and looking at the hand above.

Then in Utthita Trikonasana B the breathing or vinyasa is the same, however what would change is that we cross arm on one side with leg on the other, that is, we descend turning the trunk in torsion and our left arm is positioned on the floor right next to the right foot, the right arm is directed vertically upwards and we turn neck and gaze towards that right hand.

We go up inhaling to the neutral posture (center posture) and then exhale descending towards the left variation.

Regardless of whether we have done only 5 or up to 25 breaths in these postures on each side, after finishing them, it is important that we lie completely flat on the floor, with eyes closed and rest without moving for at least 5 minutes.

The latter is called Savasana or the corpse pose. And it is of GREAT IMPORTANCE to perform it at the end so that our nervous system finds a point of balance again and the realization of the posture is assimilated correctly at a physical and mental level.
