Piano Progress: Week 3

avatar

It has been a good three weeks since I have started playing the piano as a lockdown hobby, and I must say...I am still extremely enthuastic about this instrument and my new developed skills which go with it.

I am using the 'Simply Piano' App for this which is cutting up recognizable songs and learning them to you piece by piece while at the same time you are learning how to read chord music. I would recommend this to anybody and actually a few friends of mine who have keyboards somewhere in the attic also have started again playing because of my enthusiasm for it. You have to work on somethng to keep the brain going during this lockdown!

Chords

I didn't work too much on my chords over the last week except for rehearsing some of the stuff which I did already before. The cool thing in the app is that there is also a song practise section where you can just play one or two songs without practising and I do this to get the hands warmed up again.

Also some small practise on the chord progressions is never a loss and is still fun to do as it immediately sounds good and gives you a quick and easy satisfaction fix

Songs succesion

I have been working on getting some popular songs into the hands which I notice go better when you play them more days in a row. Repetition is key. So last week the first time I had touched the song 'Africa' by TOTO this was still really diffult en felt extremely unnatural but about three days later I mastered this easily, and it is actually fun to play and you can make any parent proud with this ;)

See you again

The next successtory over the week was learning how to play 'See you again' by Wiz Khalifa, which also needed some more days. Work had been crazy busy so I really didn't get much time to pratice over the week, but I tried to shove in some 10 minutes here and there just for the muscle memory.

Yesterday I have some more time and this looks really good now! I made some videos of it but getting them online is still a drag with no Dtube power to get something posting, and I still refuse to fill in an active key manually at Threespeak versus a keychain or a hivesigner because that it how you get hacked.

If one of these would work that would really compliment these posts with actually getting the progression videos online here. Suggestions?

Back to 'see you again', a sweet song with nice build up, and also using the two hands at the same time. I cant wait to throw in this song somewhere because everyone knows it at a party somewhere or at a trainstation where a piano stands (too early?)

It would be way more fun putting up the video versus this sheet music because I have to admit that the sheet music like this just in plain is way more difficult to read for me than how the app presents it to you with music notes passing by.

This give you a way more better sense of rhythm and I guess is a lot easier to play. On the other hand, because now you know what to play, makes it better to translate to this sheetmusic. I should try practising with this then as well after I have tried with the app.

As you see enough to do still. The dark days after new year have a nice purpose for this week. Next up: 'Winds of Change' by the scorpions and 'Back to Black' by Amy Winehouse!

Awesome!

I had a few months with a cheap keyboard before I moved back to Spain and really enjoyed starting to play as an absolute beginner. When it's confirmed I am staying, I will be investing in a better keyboard.

Good luck!

Nice a fellow player!!

How are your skills then? I really started from scratch but I can imagine that when you picked this up as a kid that it is really easy getting back into it.

Analog piano here.. The sound vibrates through the room for a good one!

(when is there some clarity about staying or not?)

I have learned parts of a few tunes but am still at beginner. I found the apps not so great but can't read sheet music fast enough yet. I've been slowing YouTube videos down and writing my own note formation to learn :)

Two of my favourites so far.

It's going to take a few months to progress my Residencia application, and then there is the tax change from UK to Spain, that has to be resolved in 183 days or less. Fingers-crossed!

This really sounds like a hassle man. paperwork for living abroad is just a bitch I know, and tax is even worse in that. I can imagine the brexit is not helping you in this one indeed. Hoping for you it goes through fast!

Ahhhh the gary jules song! This is also high on my to do list as it seems doable, but is still a lot of switching hands...I am going to watch this closer in the weekend, this has to be possible even for a beginner right?

And I want to make those videos! I have the video footage already, but getting them online is a drag!

Dtube aint helping and 3speak wants my active key for connection which is just not happening! Maybe they will end up on youtube after all :)
