At the night fish market

The one thing I love about being in East Asia maybe the most is the food. Everything fresh, everything made on the spot, and everything made in front of your eyes. I foundation this cheeky little place where a dude was holding a one man show in preparing the best stuff on his bbq right in front of your eyes.

Much love for this red snapper guru!

Yeah you see that right, no place to move for the guru in his own little mini kitchenette, but he doesn't need any more space. He knows exactly what he needs and where he wants everything to be!

It all starts with the outside

The guru has a little fishy tank outside where you also can choose from clamps, crabs, squid and tiger prawns. One thing I have learned in a previous trip is that you can spot the freshness of a fish by looking at his eyes. If they are nice and dark, this one is probably caught today. But if you see one with hazy eyes it means he will probably end up in fish stew tomorrow and you will end up with a belly ache.

It is worth it to check out what you really want to have.

I saw some other people walking around with the snapper of heaven so I decided to go with that one.

I also really liked how the crab looked and thought about this for a second but eating crab takes time and a lot of attention as you have to break every part of the shell separately, and that felt like a bit too much for my brain to handle at the moment.

After choosing the red snapper the guru started presenting his skills. Okay maybe somewhere in the back was another person who did the dirty work of descaling and degutting before little fishy came back.

But once back the guru started stuffing the fish with a mixture of oil, thai basil, garlic, red pepper and onion that I saw him making there on the spot.

Rub it in but also put in in his belly and fold it into a banana leaf and afterwards into aluminum foil.

With military precision he holded to foil to not let any steam and juice escape.

This took around 15 minutes of bbq time and the bbq was right next to the guru so he was standing in the heat the whole time. It never seemed to bother him...

In the mean time he was chopping veggies there and making a little dip saus with also lime juice and it was just pristine.

Watching the guru unfold the foil felt like an unboxing video!

Et voila! The snapper of joy was ready and the whole package also with little pineapple chunks in the veggies was awesome.

Wow what a fishy experience just outside this little market stand in the Middleton of no where. And this...is why I would go on a holiday just to go food tasting haha!

Hello! Hello! Market Friday is running so late this week, I was under the weather a bit and I will be out of town for about ten days. I apologize for the delay in answering and I hope you know how much I appreciate the great participation. I will be busy while I am gone, so I put #MarketFriday on Vacation for this week and next. You are welcome to participate, a lot of people do, but, I might not be able to comment all as my time is not my own for this time. I will probably upvote all when I get the time, but, I wanted to be fair and let you know.

I try to let people know how much I appreciate their participation in #MarketFriday! Even though I get many on a weekly basis, each one is read and enjoyed. Last week, I learned about a traditional wedding ceremony that follows Jewish laws and traditions. Interestingly enough, it was not in the post but in the comments between us discussing the post. Interaction. It was written by @tali72 who is a transplant to Israel. I enjoy learning about the world and how it is to live in your corner of it, and if there are solutions to making it better in any way. I find it interesting to compare, not by the world's standards, but, by how we find the quality of our life with different indicators than the world does. It is not always about the wealth in money, sometimes money means very little when there is no value behind it. You cannot buy health although you can take care of what you have. Being educated isn't always about schooling, but acquiring knowledge and using it for the better good and happiness of the society you are living in. It is with great pleasure that I read through this and all of the posts, with these thoughts in mind.

Don't miss the small things in your life, they usually make no noise but can be indicators of bigger things. I enjoy learning more about you and hope you feel the same, that is why I find it important to take the time to read a couple of #MarketFriday posts and leave a genuine comment. It is important for a community to do this, learning about others, and getting to know each other. The fun is in getting to know people and making a positive contribution to community life. All this fun and money too. What is not to love? That is one of the reasons I joined Hive. How about you? :) I leave you with the guidelines. I hope you are having an amazing week!

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service. It can be a movie, an auction, or even a museum. Wherever money is exchanged for a service or product.
    Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive? Did it go up or down? A scroll of pictures with few words doesn't usually work.
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess about some.
  4. Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  5. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
    7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.

As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!
