Wandering Through the Wasteland — a Fallout 4 Tale — part two

In my last post we met Alexandria as she descended into the vault then ascended into the outside world, 210 years later. She's built up a shelter in what was once her old neighbourhood and is feasting upon the meat of flies and cockroaches — a questionable diet.

Unfortunately, she has run out of sustenance and must leave the safety of her shelter and explore the wastes her world has become if she's to survive.

Before daring to step foot beyond the boundaries of Sanctuary, some molotov cocktails were quickly crafted. There was no telling what creatures would be lurking out there, not if giant flies and cockroaches were any indication.

After sweeping through all the houses for anything that may have been missed during her first lot of scavenging, she at last crossed the Sanctuary bridge and was met with two corpses — a man and a dog.

The corpses were fresh, so she harvested the dog's meat for dinner later and undressed the man. His clothes were hers now.

Down the road aways was the old Red Rocket service station, with another dog — this one alive — sniffing around the outskirts. It raced over to her and she indulged in its licks and happy dog greetings.

It looked like she had a new fluffy friend to accompany her in these ruins. A much-welcomed fluffy friend.

A very much-welcomed fluffy friend, who protected her against an unexpected attack of molerats and helped her to defeat them.

The molerats were plump with meat! With all this meat, and that of the dead dog outside of Sanctuary, she now had enough food to last a few more days. She needed to go out into the world and deliver vengeance upon they who had killed her husband and stolen her child, but she wasn't quite ready to leave that which was familiar just yet.

And so she lugged the fresh meat back to Sanctuary and cooked it all up, and prepared a small area for the dog that had followed her from the Red Rocket.

She didn't stop there. After eating roasted dog chops and downing copious litres of water, she connected electricity to an empty home and built lamps to line the street. Warm lights and bright buildings. It was comforting.

With her new dog-friend standing watch, Alexandria proceeded to partake in strength training. It was a necessity in order to become proficient with crafting protection for herself in this new world, and to be better able to lug all the guns and junk around.

The next day, Alexandria prepared herself to leave Sanctuary once more, this time with her trusty fluffy friend by her side.

Together they approached Concord, and in a long-abandoned house she found some accessories to put on the dog. He looked ever so stylish now.

Further into the city was a group of people fighting another group of people holed up in the old museum. They called out to her, begged her for help, and with that the other group knew she was there and turned on her.

They were raiders. Destroyers of innocence. Exactly what people feared would happen to other people if the end were to come. And so she whipped out her pistol and took them down before they could claim her.

The group that had called to her for help were thankful. Well, at least half of them were. But they needed more help. More raiders were coming, could Alexandria help them further to remove the threat?

Yesterday she was a lawyer and wife of a war hero; today she was a lost woman roaming a future that should never have happened. She would help them though, mostly because she couldn't turn them down and it was nice to see other people's faces.

She would not forget her baby, though; she couldn't.

Climbing to the top of the museum, she found a crashed helicopter and the unrepaired remains of an old suit of power armour. Climbing into it, she jumped down onto the streets below and started wailing on the raiders who were coming.

And then... a huge, monstrous creature the likes of which she had never seen burst out from beneath the ground and killed another pair of raiders, before turning to face her. Minigun in hand, she quickly took it down, then greedily scavenged its corpse for more delicious meat.

One of the people she had rescued seemed to be a psychic — Mama Murphy — and seemed to know all about Alexandria and her missing child. She believed the boy to still be alive and that Alexandria would find him soon, if only she sought answers in the Diamond City.

It was comforting, but strange. She hoped the old lady truly was a psychic, but how else would the woman know she had just come out of the freezer centuries in the future? She had to be the real deal.

Alexandria led them back to Sanctuary where they quickly set themselves up.

After the newcomers settled into her old neighbourhood and seemed comfortable, Alexandria and her faithful fluffy friend prepared to head out once more.

With a backpack filled with water bottles and cooked molerat meat, they set forth for Diamond City.

Until next time! 🙃💣☢️

What don't you like about the series? :)

I didn't really like the other games, but New Vegas and #4 were pretty good!
