Starbound - the new hardcore survival adventure, pt 3

In my last Starbound post, Autumnia learnt that she could make her very own space station provided she one day obtained the materials required, found and looted a massive storage crate for her very own, and finished investigating the Floran relics.

Now the little old lady wanted her to partake in The Hunting Grounds dungeon, second dungeon of the game. Autumnia is defying the little old lady though, and is instead exploring the galaxy and getting stronger before daring to even think about stepping foot in that dungeon. 😅

Today I decided to go down to a desert planet in search of oil — and lots of it!

Apparently oil is most abundant on desert planets, so here's hoping Autumnia finds a decent amount of it. But first, I want to explore top-side.

Within moments of walking around, I find an Avian temple. I have a very strong feeling that if I find a village on this planet, they'll have a bazillion quests for me in this temple. It might be smart to clear it out beforehand. 🤔

I place a flag here for easy teleporting to later, and keep on exploring!

Just as nightfall hit, I found pools of oil and abandoned houses and an abandoned campsite. I decided to take safety in the refuge of this abandoned house and wait 'til daybreak to gather this bountiful boon of oil.

There was so much oil! I ended up collecting about 1500 blobs of oil which should be plenty for a tonne of crafting and molotov creation. 😅

On the edge of the oil field, was a village... of course. And they had quests for me for a few places! Both the Avian Temple and apparently a Floran hunting ground.

This time I declined a few quests. Every quest which said "bring them back to me" I declined. I ain't escorting anyone home! They can find their own way home!

But I did accept a quest to kill some ruffians and to sell things to a merchant for another merchant who refuses to speak to his competition.

Whilst in the village, night descended and I very quickly learned that whilst in NPC houses it can still be quite dangerous!

Some guy got attacked outside, ran inside and didn't shut the door behind him, and the thing that was attacking him flew in also and started attacking me and everyone else inside!

Silly NPCs.

When daylight awakened, I teleported my way back to the Avian Temple and made my descent. During my travels, I had picked up a pretty cool poisonous grenade launcher and it was absolutely destroying all the enemies inside. Fantastic.

While searching through the temple for the few quests that I had, I found these cool wings too! Looked much better than the leaves Autumnia was currently wearing.

I soon found the merchant I was to trade with, now for my next quest I was to kill every single Avian enemy in this temple. Seemed easy enough so far! But, as we know, this game can turn in an instant.

We would be careful during this murderous spree.

I soon found the last of the evil Avians, and who was with them but an NPC who expected me to escort him home?? 😂🤣

Escorting someone home was the reason The Doomed One met her doom. Autumnia must do better.

Gritting her teeth, she instead searched through the rest of the tomb for any possible treasure (and found some Matter Manipulator Upgrades and made her tool more powerful!!!) then grudgingly started the trip back to the village to take this poor Glitch home.

The journey was strangely devoid of all animal life. Not a single creature rushed to waylay Autumnia or the Glitch she was escorting.

I guess the game knew that's why my last hardcore character died and took pity on me for this very first escort quest. 😅

In one of the reward bags obtained from these quests, Autumnia retrieved a new spear that was far greater than the sword she had been wielding. And now looks quite regal with her spear, her wings, and her kitty cat headgear. 😅

Today's adventure had been quite the success! Oil had been found, quests had been completed, and much loot had been taken.

Of course there was no where to put the loot yet. Whilst Autumnia had found a gigantic storage chest previously, there was no where to put that either. Base building had to start and it had to start soon.

It was time to fly off and find a new planet to call home!

Until next time! 😄

Rejecting missions is something that feels normal over time in Starbound hahaha I remember that when I played it I tried to do all the secondary missions, until I felt that if I continued like this I would not get anywhere xd.

I'm glad you improved the character a bit! It looks like you're slowly making progress! Good luck with the next planet!

The missions are secondary xD But if you want crewmembers for your ship, you need to do them or you'll have an empty ship and be alone forevermore. The ship doesn't really matter, but for roleplaying purposes! 😅

Oh, by the way, is it really hardcore? Permadeath or hunger system, something like that?

Yep! It is! 🙂

When you first start a character, you have the option for your character to live in a casual, survival, or hardcore manner.

Casual just means you lose nothing when you die and you don't have to eat.

Survival means you lose money and items on death, and you have to eat to survive.

Hardcore means you have to eat to survive, and when you die it's permanent.
