Starbound - a NEW hardcore survival adventure!

I wasn't going to do this. I was going to start a new game in normal survival mode instead so that my character and world wouldn't disappear and I could just work on it, happily and without worry.

But it's fun. It's fun to do this. To torture myself. And since I'm still waiting to find out what the hell was wrong with my PC build (apparently the motherboard tested fine, ARGH!!!! Now I'm getting my CPU and RAM tested.) I'm still diddling around on this laptop that could overheat and die in a fire at any moment.

SO! Let's do this again, shall we? And let's BE BETTER this time, shall we? xD (spoiler alert: I've already written up 6 posts at the time of publishing this first one and am still going strong.)

In my last Hardcore game, I named my character The Doomed One. So, quite frankly, perhaps she truly was just doomed from the start. If I'm going to take this seriously, I have to give my character a proper name, and therefore have a life to look forward to.

So, meet Autumnia, the Floran who was once a doomed human, reincarnated into a plant who just wants to LIVE! LAUGH! LOVE!

I'm not caffeinated right now, you are. 🤣

20221022104645_1.jpg

The Floran ship looks a lot cooler than the human one, with vines and plants all over the place. And a pet snail instead of a pet cat.

By some miracle, the automated beam point for this planet was riiiight on top of the mine with the core fragments inside. That'll make things quick and easy!

I also landed right on top of some iron ore, and a bunch of plants I can yoink to replant for my own purposes. A really good start.

I moved over to the right a little bit and started my temporary base. This time I prepared a farming field straight off the bat.

In particular, thanks to my very recent experience in the last game, I planted rice and cotton. Rice is a food that doesn't have an expiry countdown on it so I can just cook it up and eat it on the fly, and cotton is very necessary for quite a few crafting recipes.

I'm going to need more cotton!

20221022111952_1.jpg

While my plants were growing, I dug straight down into the core fragment mine and begun having a look around. I stole a tent for my own purposes! And all the loot I could find.

This time I didn't bother armouring up first, simply because I knew the miniboss in here wouldn't be able to even touch me. I could armour up on the way back.

I found quite a few Matter Manipulate Upgrade Modules in the mine and swiftly upgraded my tool to be able to collect liquids.

Increasing power or size might seem more common-sensical, but I always choose liquids first because oil is quite important and I like to gather that as soon as I see it.

After looting every inch of the mines, I found the miniboss and quickly dispatched him via my cheese-method of just standing on a platform above his head. xD

Nothing wrong with a bit of cheese. Haloumi's my favourite.

With that taken care of, I returned to my temporary base and smelted all of my ingots and transformed it into some armour. And I could just go find the portal to the space station now, but I decided to go look for more ore first.

There's that guy on the space station who'll unlock your tech usage, and I need to have at least 10 silver ingots, 10 copper ingots, and 10 gold ingots before I speak to him.

So, it was time to go mining!

Pretty soon it was only gold that I needed, and I was barely finding any. So I headed deeper and deeper underground to where the core fragments are in the ground naturally.

I vaguely remember finding gold more often down there, and lo! I did. I also discovered a fleshy underground area where stringy flesh-tendrils grew and meat-beasts roamed. Delicious.

Not wanting to bore you too much with that which I literally did and wrote about just a week ago, I headed off to the space station, spoke to the little old lady, completed the Erchius Mining Facility dungeon, and repaired my space ship.

In my next post, Autumnia's true adventure begins as she surpasses the life that The Doomed One but temporarily lived, and here's hoping she survives longer than the Doomed One was destined to.

Since I'm a bit more in tune with the game now, I certainly hope she does. xD

Until next time! 😄

this is great. a new HC survival. 😀.

sad to hear about your pc.

this is why I always have a motherboard speaker. (or keyboard capslock test).

chances are it's probably the ram sticks or the psu.

chances~, not absolute.

hope you get it running soon. 😃

This hardcore survival is going much better xD I just finished my base! All will be revealed in several more posts! Haha! XD

I just really wasn't expecting to have any issues with this build xD my partner has built so many of these things and has never had a problem, so this just kind of threw us for a loop. Makes me so sad. But at least I still have this laptop for now. 😅

It wasn't the PSU, that was the first thing we thought it could be. And apparently it's ~super rare~ for a CPU to be dead on arrival, but either way, got it all being tested right now. Fingers crossed it's all working by next week! XD 🤞🤞🤞

You really are a very lively writer! God is contagious reading you xd

I like to see how you torture yourself! I'm a fan of this attitude in video games xd, I hope to see you soon upload some gameplay of Syobon action, I wanna be the guy or some of those games with absurd difficulty.

Good luck with The Doomed One and good luck with your PC!

Obviously, great post as always!

Haha, oh no! Absurd difficulty will kill me! xD I die very easily in even the most simple game, it'll be a nightmare, haha!

Both 3D games and pixel games are good in their own ways 😊 as long as the gameplay is good!

I was going to ask why you play hardcore mode and you said you like to torture yourself lol.

You're definitely the caffeinated one right now, let's agree on that.

And yes you already cursed your previous character by naming her the doomed one. I hope this one last longer!

Hardcore mode is fun in a lot of ways. You neeeed to be more careful and pay attention to things or wham! You're doomed. xD I played a lot of hardcore mode in Path of Exile and barely got past level 40, but that was the start of my interest in this game type. 😊

Yes, yes. I'll admit it! I'm the caffeinated one. xD

I would last all about 10 mins on HC.

Oh don't sell yourself short buddy, you'd last at least 13.5.

Which would put you about mid-way through that first cavern. 🤣

Nah, I reckon you'd at least get 20 minutes. 😊

I think I would not do so well. I see a side-on perspective and get flashbacks of constantly and always falling to my doom in platform games all the time. As a result, I will avoid this and continue trying to smash my way through my collection alphabetically. I'm not doing all that well on that so recently.

I'm very much the same. 😅 I was terrible at platformers back in the day and as a result I'm not really a fan of them now. There are a few exceptions though. This is definitely one of them! 😁 It really doesn't feel like a platformer at all, just a 2D side-scrolling adventure, so I don't mind it too much.

I'm still looking forward to reading your impressions of Stellaris when you reach it in your A-Z. 😊 One of my favourite games!!

It will be a long time before I get there! :( Stupid enormous backlog. At least I started out with Final Fantasy XV last week for a few hours, but been way too distracted by other stuff to really sit down and make progress in that game, or the rest of my library.

This 2D game looks great, but playing in HC, that's something I couldn't. I would die of sheer frustration.

If I were more serious about the hardcore mode and actually completing the game, I would probably be more frustrated. xD But I'm just using this as a timewaster to dabble around in while waiting for a new computer to be built. So it doesn't really bother me if my character dies or not, except I'll have to find something else to do while waiting. 😅
