The Very Hungry Caterpillar

avatar

One of my dear friends and favorite photographers, @markangeltrueman, is back sharing his photography once again.. and I’m pretty happy about it. He seems to have found some inspiration again through one of our new tribes, @creativecoin.

To me this is the point of tribes.. to help people find their community. Find the content that inspires them and the economic system they agree with.. not to mentioned seeing great content rising to the top.

I hope to see more of it, as I think it’s the key not only to onboarding, but also retention. And pretty much everyone in business can agree how insanely important the second is for long term success.

Anyways, we were chatting about photography and I shared that I was not inspired at all lately, and rarely even picked up my camera. He had the idea that we should help inspire one another, and push each other to share our photography more. Even if it’s just a single photo.

So.. here is a photo I took a few weeks ago and loved. I hadn’t posted as I didn’t have anything that really went with it to make a “complete post.”

I’m pushing myself out of that mentality though, and will be pushing myself to post the photos I love.. to hopefully help me find that inspiration again.. even if it is just one photo.

I'm calling this the "grind" phase.

We made it through the excited phase. (Everyone is going to get rich)
We made it through the disappointing phase. (oh man, we aren't going to immediately moon)
Now we have to stick with it during the rebuilding phase.

It feels like a grind. I'm glad others are sticking to it as well.

Also, great picture.

Gonna grind though this with all you guys after 6 months off in the apathy phase (during which i moved all my steem to btc and it went 4x)

I'm calling this the "grind" phase.

That's similar to my thoughts.. Recently, I've been thinking of it in terms of "the fly wheel effect", that was mentioned in John Rossman's book, The Amazon Way: 14 Leadership Principles Behind the World's Most Disruptive Company. I talked about the concept a couple years ago in part 1 of a 3-part book review, part 1, part 2, and part 3.

With a fly wheel, getting the thing moving is the hardest part. But after you muscle through the hard part, the faster it spins the easier it gets. Unfortunately, I think we let the metaphorical fly wheel lose its momentum, and now we find ourselves squarely back in the "brute force" phase trying to get it spinning again.

Rossman's discussion of the flywheel effect was in the book's section on the principle: "Obsess over the customer." I wonder how that principle applies to the various stakeholders on the Steem blockchain.

I have read that book 100's of times to various grandchildren and other small children. I hope your lovely Hungry Caterpillar turns into a Beautiful Butterfly!

The tribes have brought so much new life and inspiration to the platform. Creative Coin has given me a home and a sense of belonging here on Steemit. Something that was lacking before. I am glad that the tribes are doing that for others as well.

Totally agree and it’s why I’ve always been so excited about communities. ❤️

The Very Hungry Caterpillar was my favourite book as a young kid. I sent it to @smallsteps a while back too...Good picture by the way.

P.s. Now I'm hungry like a caterpillar too!

When I was a kid, one of the words I couldn't pronounce was caterpillar. It was "calipitter" to me and I still hear about it on family visits.

Can’t wait until we have more and more of them.. and am patiently awaiting communities... and by patiently I mean I’ve been nagging @roadscape about them constantly. It’s cool though.. I think he likes my nagging 😜

So I guess it's my turn to get out and take some images today. Maybe i'll go out with the swirly whirly lens and see what's about or maybe the macro. Looks like a lovely day for it.

Nice caterpillar, wonder what type it is.

Thank you! That little guy really drew my eye and I was just fascinated with him. It’s funny as I don’t have a zoom on my lens.. so it requires me to get very close to my subjects haha.. which I think makes the shot even more special.

A single photo can be enough!
I hope you'll find your inspiration again, I kind of missing your old @llfarms posts :)

Thank you so much ☺️

I miss those posts too actually.. I was just looking back through some of my freewrites and photo adventures and I really enjoyed them. Trying to get back into that. 🙂

I love your "single photo" and sometimes that's all that's needed... IF we make it meaningful.

What is cool about tribes is that they are actually a bit of a kickback to how early forums and "blog rings" worked, 20+ years ago. very few people pretended to "do everything," Facebook style... you just belonged to groups for your hobbies or interests or whatever.

I'm hopeful tribes will make that "work" here.

Thank you!

Yes I think having more niche style communities will be good for us and actually draw more people in. I’ve got big hopes for them!

Couldn't agree more!
Especially the ONE photo, sometimes one pic can say more than 1000 words.
Have a great day

Sometimes going for a walk outside will give you some inspiration (and time to think!)

Beautiful shot too!

We're all going through it I think. Its hard to trudge through the slow times find inspiration when you feel like you're alone. Best of luck finding your stride again.
