This microfiction story is for the prompt "immigrant". It reminds me of individuals who are away from their home country for whatever reasons. They may be traveling a short distance or over many miles to reach new destinations. A ZAPFIC50 story is told in exactly 50 words. The challenge was created by @felt.buzz.

Below is my story.
Walking silently in the cold night, Evan didn't understand why they abandoned their home.
Moisture penetrated vacant soles. Blisters followed.
As ordered, he slowly climbed up the jagged rock. Excruciating pain hindered his progress.
Finally, he peered over the side. Safety beckoned as tents glowed brightly.
He imagined a future.

Many of the immigrants have no choice, their options are to starve where they are or to starve in a new location while fighting for a better future.
So true. The situation is usually grim. No one truly understands the hardship and severity unless they experience it.

Venezuela suffered a severe crisis and there was a massive exodus. I have heard the story first hand, of friends who had no choice but to emigrate to other countries. It really is something that no one wishes.
Sad situation all around. I have also heard of this ongoing crisis.
