Qing's Failed Cake Smash for His 1st Birthday!
On Tuesday, my brother and sister-in-law requested Qing’s photoshoot. Qing will turn one year old this Saturday, the 18th. There was no grand preparation for this, they just wanted to get him dressed in his polo with crown designs and take photos as a remembrance.
I suggested they could also try a cake smash and they agreed so they bought a cake from Sticky Buns. Unfortunately, I have to leave Matti with my husband because my mother had some things to do. We waited until quarter to four in the afternoon before we headed to the area where we will do the photoshoot, Qing didn’t sleep that afternoon and so he was already grumpy. It was just nearby our place so we arrived after just five minutes, and set up the balloon the wind was so strong but it was a good thing because it made us feel fresh and well-ventilated.
Qing was really not smiling at all, it was like he was questioning why he was dressed up like that and why there were balloons around him, and his eyebrows were just crossed the entire time.
As usual, the parents tried their very best to get him to smile. The third photo shows how he was about to smile but he didn’t let us get a glimpse of it. He just returned to bring grumpy again no matter what his mommy would do.
At this point, Qing is unable to communicate in words, he can only speak “mama” and “papa”. I hope he’ll be able to communicate with words in the coming months. We spent only a few minutes with the first set, but when we were about to get him changed, he suddenly stood by himself which was a milestone! He crawls but never attempted to stand by himself according to his parents so I am happy to be able to capture him standing by himself!
And now the cake smash, the cake’s flavor by the way was mocha, it got really thick icing on it. Qing was placed a few inches away from the cake as I was hoping he’d get curious about the cake and crawl to it but he didn’t really pay attention so we have to bring the cake near him and he started tapping it with his fingers.
I don’t know if it was because he was sleepy or that he didn’t like the feeling of the icing that he started crying. Whatever we would do to entertain him, it was not working at all, he just cried and cried. So we tried a couple of times for his mommy to get him up and pacify him which worked but as soon as we put him down on the ground, he would start screaming and crying. Perhaps, it might also be the grass?
Anyway, we decided to call it a day. It was a quick photoshoot really, nothing fancy, but the photos were fine, they turned out okay. I wish he was in a better mood though. Anyway, happy first birthday Qing!
