HOW I COOK MY SHRIMP SINIGANG WITH SOMEONE SPECIAL IN MIND ~ 😌

I mentioned in my previous blog that I was given a non-stick pan as a gift from my secret Santa @cthings and In this blog, I'm going to make use of it with her request, a shrimp sinigang, a Filipino dish loved by many and hated by some for its sour flavor, but as for me, I love it! why? Imma share a brief history of it.

Back in college, I ate in a home-cooked restaurant outside my university, where they served free sinigang soup when buying a meal. It was so delicious that it became one of my favorite Filipino food.

Loving such meal made me want to cook it for myself, I even bought lots of sinigang sachets to try and cook it. sadly, I didn't get the chance to make it since my family isn't fond of the dish. Even our maid doesn't know how to cook it, and as someone who was used to having a meal served for me every day, I shrugged the thought of making it for myself and kept saying I'll try to do it someday until the sachets were on standby and misplaced till it reached its expiration date (see picture on the left as proof that I did buy sachets of it and then wasted it), when I bought the new one which Is on the right side, my mom was like "you bought a new one again? I hope you don't waste it this time" 😅

Since the farmers market was a 3 minutes walk from my place, It was easier to get the ingredients since everything here was complete and very cheap too!

Wash all the ingridients very well

INGREDIENTS AND PRICES

  • ₱250 - 1kilo Shrimp ($4.56)
  • ₱13 - Knorr sinigang sampaloc mix ($0.23)
  • ₱10 - Water spinach ($0.18)
  • ₱7 - Snake beans ($0.12)
  • ₱10 - Radish ($0.18)
  • ₱10 - Tomato ($0.18)
  • ₱5 - green chili pepper ($0.09)
  • ₱6 - 1 pc. onion ($0.10)
  • ₱10 - black paper ($0.18)

If you happen to be an expert in cooking a sinigang you can tell that I have other missing ingridients such as eggplant, okra, patis and the likes. The reason why I didn't include those veggies is because I don't wanna waste them, I know my family won't eat them and they'll only eat the shrimp and drink soup which leads me to be the only one to eat the veggies so i only picked the ones that I'd like to eat so don't wonder why.

The First step I did was to pour a right amount of water into the pan and wait for it to boil, after it boiled, I placed the onion and tomatoes in and covered it to let it simmer for 10 minutes.

I added in the shrimp after and the it turned red in a second, I also poured the long green chilli and I let it simmer again for another two minutes.

Poured the knorr sinigang mix, and I stirred it to spread the flavor and added the black pepper and waited for another couple of minutes for it to be cooked well...

added the kangkong or water spinach stalk and stir it and added the leaves of it, I then covered the pan and waited a minute for it to be cooked.

opened it to give a little stir and let it simmer for a few more minutes ~ then tasting it if it's good already.

FINAL PLATING

Transfer it to a good looking bowl and pair it with a rice and enjoy the meal !

One of my favorite dish! sinigang and shrimp! 😍 Same how we cook ours, as we say "if you're not gonna eat it, we wont include it", sayang nga naman yun sangkap na hindi naman din kakainin, but wow marunong mag luto si jude! Love it! kahit alam ko di mo ko love 😍

I also cook sinigang but mostly I prefer sinigang na baboy, it takes time to soften the pork but the outcome would be delicious, I am using sinigang sa gabi which had combination of taro which makes the dish more delicious, I also cook sinigang na bangus which is the easiest one.

The way of your cooking sir is different from mine but I guarantee that yours is more cleaner and faster, I hope I can taste that dish of yours sir cause I'm sure it's delicious.

First time ko to know na bangus can be a sinigang 🥹 can't imagine how hard to eat it with all those bones, unless its boneless

I just made mine easy since im mostly after the soup 😂 hahaha

I never cooked sinigang in my entire life shame. This looks easy to cook but in my head, I am thinking jiji is messing up again HAHA! I might replace the shrimp with pork hehe. But if you will serve me a shrimp sinigang, I will eat it. I will just take an antihistamine na lang. 😊 And then jiji ded eating shrimp sinigang 🤣

Wow ang sarap nito. One of my favorite dish ito. Kaso mahal ng kilo ng hipon..I would love to try this recipe for the family soon.
