At times, storms take on an unexpected and dramatic Shakespearean storm charge, to show their full force, collapsing cities in whose memory they remember nothing like it in centuries.

That is what happened in Madrid, just a year ago today: shortly after the departure of the Three Wise Men to their magical retreat in some unknown place in the East - anyone would think that their clairvoyance made them flee faster than usual, to avoid what was to come - when the kids hadn't yet had time to tire of their brand-new toys and the department stores were rubbing their hands with the sales.
[Eso es lo que pasó en Madrid, hace hoy justamente un año: poco después de la partida de los Reyes Magos hacia su mágico retiro en algún lugar ignoto de Oriente -cualquiera pensaría, que su videncia les hizo salir huyendo más rápido que de costumbre, para evitar lo que se avecinaba- cuando los niños todavía no habían tenido tiempo de cansarse con sus novísimos juguetes y los grandes almacenes se frotaban las manos con las rebajas].

For this year, it is nothing new that the people of Madrid maintain the expectation, not only because of the frigid mornings that we are enduring these last days, but because we attend, undecided, the predictions of meteorologists and seers and perhaps we are nervous to check, no and to whom reason assists, because in the end it will only be time that will make the truth prevail, but to check if we learned the lesson and are now prepared to face what falls to us.
[Para el presente año, no es ninguna novedad que los madrileños mantenemos la expectación, no sólo por las gélidas madrugadas que estamos soportando estos últimos días, sino porque asistimos, indecisos, a los vaticinios de meteorólogos y videntes y quizás estemos nerviosos por comprobar, no ya a quien asista la razón, porque al final sólo será el tiempo el que hará prevalecer la verdad, sino de comprobar si aprendimos la lección y estamos ahora preparados para afrontar lo que nos caiga].
