[ENG-SPN] The memorable cathedral of Maragatería / La memorable catedral de la Maragatería

From ancient Roman Asturia, capital of that splendid Leonese region, known as Maragateria and which also shares, with Lugo, a notable historical-heritage legacy of the passage and settlement, millennia ago, of the Legion VII Gemina, such as, for example, the walls that, before surrounding the city, protected the camps of the brave legionaries settled there, we are left with, as it could not be otherwise, the unmistakable trace of some brotherhoods of medieval stonemasons, whose wisdom and notable execution of a profound knowledge of sacred geometry, another of those immeasurable masterpieces, both of Art and Architecture, which is, without a doubt, its magnificent cathedral.

Located a few meters from the aforementioned Roman walls and in front, to top it all off, of that other notable work, conceived by the genius and fantasy of the great Catalan architect, Antonio Gaudí, whose name responds to the Episcopal Palace, although it has currently been converted in the Museum of the Ways, that metaphorical and comparative Darwinian evolution, makes it, from the beautiful chromaticism with which the sunlight embraces, through the refraction of its windows, the solid and marble surface of its titanic columns, similar to a wonderful petrified forest, one of the most extraordinary cultural landmarks of the incredible heritage that makes up this unusual pilgrimage route, which is none other than that of Santiago de Compostela.

The problem with cathedrals is that over time works of different styles and tastes were added to them, which, in many cases, broke their original purity and beauty. Still, they are still beautiful.

Cathedrals were possibly the most outstanding buildings of the Middle Ages in Europe.
