[ENG-SPN] The Invisible Footprints of the Templars in Forgotten Soria / Las huellas invisibles del Temple en la Soria olvidada
It is unlikely that El Cid Campeador passed through here on his way to forced exile, nor did the warlord Almanzor on one of his many raids to plunder the Christian kingdoms with fire and sword—for whom he was undoubtedly a real headache. However, it is known, although documentation is sorely lacking, that the Knights Templar roamed these remote Soria deserts, searching for God knows what.
The first glimpse of their impenetrable presence is found by the traveler less than a kilometer from a village, undoubtedly 'magical' and deeply attached to its traditions, whose name, San Pedro Manrique, is inextricably linked to the summer solstice and the passage of fire—undoubtedly a Celtiberian legacy, even though it has been piously disguised as the celebration of the feast of Saint John the Baptist.
These ruins, which time, in its relentless march, is increasingly eroding, shaping their progressive decay, and which rise atop a solitary hill—at whose foot, in modern times, the municipal landfill has been established—were, in reality, the Templar convent of San Pedro el Viejo: a Romanesque building, rough in essence, but subject to the discipline of a sacred geometry that left nothing to chance and which still retains, although increasingly less visible, some of the paintings that decorated the interior of its apse or chancel. These paintings consisted mainly of the representation of two knights facing each other, to which one should also add, although judging by its appearance it is possibly a modern representation, the famous Neolithic archer, a truly universal symbol, which in southern Spain is known as the Indalo.
