[ENG-SPN] Saúca: Romanesque Elegance in Miniature / Saúca: Elegancia Románica en Miniatura

Saúca, the village where we find ourselves, has fewer than fifty inhabitants, yet it boasts one of the most beautiful and elegant Romanesque churches in the region of Guadalajara, whose subtle picturesqueness never ceases to amaze.

Although it is true that the parish church of Saúca, dedicated to the Assumption, underwent some modifications in the 16th century, it still retains much of the elegance of that metaphorical Romanesque swan, which, it is believed, was built by anonymous hands between the 12th and 13th centuries.

The foliate motifs stand out among the historiated capitals of its porticoed gallery, but among them, we also find a curious representation of a motif that has been widely accepted by artists throughout history, where the figure of the angel, unlike judge and executioner, becomes a messenger, as Michael did: the Annunciation.

No llegan a la cincuentena de habitantes en Saúca, pueblo en el que nos encontramos ahora y sin embargo, poseen una de las iglesias románicas más hermosas y elegantes de una Comunidad, la de Guadalajara, cuyo sutil pintoresquismo nunca deja de sorprender.

Aunque es cierto que la iglesia parroquial de Saúca, dedicada a la figura de la Asunción, sufrió algunas modificaciones en el siglo XVI, continúa manteniendo buena parte de la elegancia de ese metafórico cisne románico, que, se supone, fue levantado por manos anónimas entre los siglos XII y XIII.

Destacan los motivos foliáceos entre los capiteles historiados de su galería porticada, pero entre ellos, nos encontramos, también, con una curiosa representación de un motivo que ha sido ampliamente aceptado por los artistas de todos los tiempos, donde la figura del ángel se convierte, a diferencia de juez y verdugo, como Miguel, en mensajero: la Anunciación.
