[ENG-SPN] Saint Cecilia and the Shadow of Almanzor / Santa Cecilia y la Sombra de Almanzor

The area around Silos is also a place committed to adventure, especially when it focuses on a historical and artistic heritage whose antiquity and charm always present a significant challenge that, almost without us realizing it, activates two valuable resources: reverie and speculation.

Solitary atop a small depression where the roots of poplars thirstily seek the nutrients of a small stream, a humble yet elegant 11th-century hermitage, dedicated to the enigmatic figure of Saint Cecilia, beckons us from afar, promising moments of unforgettable contemplation.

Of Mozarabic origin—although today many voices reject this and simply prefer to describe its style as repopulation art—we have, in this invaluable collection of sacred geometry, an astonishing testament to resilience, dating back at least to the dark times of the early Castilian counts. Unlike Silos, it remained unaffected by the numerous campaigns waged by Almanzor from the strong position of the Caliphate of Córdoba, which was beginning to falter under the constant harassment of Christian kingdoms that, though still at odds, were beginning to form a united front.

También el entorno de Silos es un lugar comprometido con la aventura, sobre todo, si ésta se focaliza, especialmente, alrededor de un patrimonio histórico-artístico, cuya antigüedad y encanto suponen siempre un notable desafío que activa, sin darnos apenas cuenta, dos valiosos recursos, como son la ensoñación y la especulación.

Solitaria en la cima de una pequeña depresión donde las raíces de los álamos buscan sedientas los nutrientes de un pequeño arroyo, una humilde pero elegante ermita del siglo XI, dedicada a la incierta figura de Santa Cecilia, nos seduce en la distancia, augurándonos unos momentos de inolvidable contemplación.

De orígenes mozárabes -aunque hoy en día hay numerosas voces que reniegan y optan, simplemente, por calificar su estilo como arte de repoblación- tenemos, en este conjunto inapreciable de geometría sagrada, un asombroso testimonio de resiliencia, que se remonta, cuando menos, a aquellos sombríos tiempos de los primeros condes castellanos y que, a diferencia de Silos, permaneció inalterable a las numerosas campañas realizadas por Almanzor desde la fuerte posición de un Califato, el de Córdoba, que comenzaba a tambalearse frente al continuo hostigamiento de unos reinos cristianos, que, aún en discordia, comenzaban a hacer un frente común.
