[ENG-SPN] Remembering Becquer in Toledo / Recordando a Bécquer en Toledo

Not only the city of Soria and the Aragonese surroundings of Moncayo were the customary settings where most of the legends that Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer compiled during the details of his stay in such charismatic places, such as the monasteries of San Juan de Duero, of Santa María de Veruela and that enigmatic town of witches, Trasmoz, whose castle legend claims was built in a single night by the Devil himself, but also, as it could not be otherwise, in such a historic and monumental city, like Toledo.

It was in Toledo or if you prefer, in the heart of that capital of forgotten empires, as the German poet, Rainer María Rilke, defined it, where Becquer, long before the most celebrated crimes of the Generation of '27 -Buñuel, Lorca and Dalí - founded the Brotherhood of Toledo, searching for the famous Solomon's Table among the alcoholic effluvia of their ancestral taverns, compiled a wonderful legend, which, titled 'The golden anklet', develops a story as terrifying, in essence, as that of the Monte de las Animas, having as protagonists the immeasurable cathedral and the beautiful image of the Patroness of the city, which can be seen inside, reigning in the Main Altarpiece, as Queen and Lady: the Virgin of the Tabernacle.

The buildings look great especially the cathedral and the castle, I wonder if they are still in use? Thanks for writing and have a nice day.

Yes, it is still active, offering worship to parishioners and also serving as a cultural landmark for many visitors, who, by the way, continue to be dazzled by its beauty and enormous cultural heritage. I also wish you a happy day.

All the cathedrals are impressive. Toledo's cathedral also claims to be the largest of the Spanish cathedrals.

Well, they're not the only ones. You could say that all the great Spanish cities were born next to a formidable cathedral.
