[ENG-SPN] Notions of rural architecture of Castilla / Nociones de arquitectura rural de Castilla

An essential part of that metaphorical heart of Spain, which is, without a doubt, that old territory that responds to the name of Castile and whose towns, forgers of legends long ago and today converted into enchanted maidens who sleep impassively the sleep of the just , points towards an architecture, where its apparent crudeness is in no way at odds with its thoughtful functionality and even in it, the inclusion of necessary but skillfully serving elements continues to manifest itself, with the strength of yesteryear, of superstition, such as its striking pine tree chimneys, which, ending, inexorably, in a pointed shape, were popularly known with the significant name of 'witch scare'.

In fact, seeing how the roofs slide in free fall over some facades, where the stone, nobility aside, has been fitting together with the precision of a monumental puzzle, also reminds us, and of course, saving all distances, of those other constructions, inherited of a long Middle Ages, which lasted forever in Goethe's childhood memory, when he began the adventure of exploring the city in which he was born: Frankfort on Maine and where, as he himself reminds us - giving voice to that imaginative father, that at night he dressed up as a ghost and stalked the corridors of the house with the aim of getting the children used to sleeping alone in their beds - inner comfort was sought more than external beauty. This also summarizes, in part, the true essence of Castilian architecture, where appearance is deceiving and fantasy and accommodation are always inside.

That's a beautiful architectural structure. It's ancient appearance reminds me of the type of buildings that existed in the middle ages, several centuries ago, especially the ones in England and Spain. I wonder if it's still in use today or have been abandoned. Thanks for sharing.

It is rustic architecture, but very interesting. In fact, it still forms an essential part of the majority of Spanish towns, including those that are about to be forgotten, because the new generations do not want to work in the countryside and are looking for new opportunities in the big cities.

I’ve never seen these kinds of old roofings
I’m sure that they will be very strong
Beautiful pictures!

They tend to be very typical in rural homes in Castile, in architectures that mix, in addition to their rusticity and comfort, remnants of old medieval superstitions, especially those related to witches, which is why the chimneys were made like this, to prevent them from entering. home.
