[ENG-SPN] Navarre and the stars of Saint James Way / Navarra y las estrellas del Camino de Santiago

Since the dawn of time, man has always looked to the stars, those metaphorical fireflies that bring millions of candles to that infinite eternal night, which, ultimately, we can think of as the Universe. It should not surprise us, therefore, that, dreaming suspiciously of them, he sought to have them within his grasp, making paths on earth through them.

From those first glances at the stars, not only emerged the precedent for modern astronomy, but also the first foundations of a hidden hermeticism, where pseudo-historical figures, such as the mythical Hermes Trismegistus, recorded, in works such as that invaluable esoteric compendium, his 'Tabula Smeragdina' or 'Emerald Tablet', such relevant concepts as the one that states that 'what is above is equal to what is below', which applies, in this case, like a glove to the hidden characteristics of the pilgrimage route: the Way of the Stars.

The star, therefore, present in all the great myths, including the birth of Christ and the fundamental role of the enigmatic Magi from the East as guide, also points to places that are certainly crucial to the Saint James Way. As for Navarre, that land, which, for some curious reason, was not very popular with Aymeric Picaud, who, with his famous Codex Calistinus, possibly unwittingly wrote the first pilgrim's guide to the Saint James Way, has at least two invaluable places related to it, such as the magnificent town of Estella (star) and that sublime funerary chapel, located in front of a legendary mountain called "of the star" and approximately one kilometer from Puente la Reina, the city where the roads leading to Compostela meet, possesses a hermetic symbolism, undoubtedly intentionally related to the stars: Santa María de Eunate.

Desde el alba de los tiempos, el hombre siempre ha puesto la mirada en las estrellas, esas metafóricas luciérnagas que aportan millones de candelas a esa infinita noche eterna, que, en definitiva, podemos llegar a pensar que es el Universo. No ha de extrañarnos, por lo tanto, que, soñando suspicazmente con ellas, pretendiera tenerlas al alcance de su mano, haciendo, a través de ellas, caminos en la tierra.

De aquellas primeras miradas a las estrellas, no sólo surgió el precedente de la moderna Astronomía, sino también los primeros cimientos de un hermetismo soterrado, donde figuras pseudohistóricas, como el mítico Hermes Trismegisto, consignaban, en obras como ese inapreciable compendio esotérico, que es su ‘Tabula Smeragdina’ o ‘Tabla Esmeralda’, conceptos tan relevantes, como aquel que afirma que ‘lo que está arriba es igual a lo que está abajo’, que se aplica, en este caso, como un guante a las características ocultas de la ruta de peregrinación: el Camino de las Estrellas.

La estrella, pues, presente en todos los grandes mitos, incluido el nacimiento de Cristo y el papel fundamental de guía de los enigmáticos Magos de Oriente, señala, además, lugares ciertamente determinantes del Camino de Santiago y en lo que respecta a Navarra, esa tierra, que, por alguna curiosa razón no le caía simpática a Aymeric Picaud, quien, con su famoso Codex Calistinus hizo, posiblemente sin ser consciente de ello, la primera guía para peregrinos del Camino de Santiago, tiene, relacionados, al menos dos lugares inapreciables, como son la magnífica población de Estella (estrella) y esa sublime capilla funeraria, que, situada frente a un monte legendario, llamado ‘de la estrella’ y distante un kilómetro, aproximadamente, de Puente la Reina, ciudad donde se unen los caminos que conducen a Compostela, posee una hermética simbología, sin duda, intencionadamente relacionada con las estrellas: Santa María de Eunate.
