[ENG-SPN] Mysteries of Gothic Art / Misterios del Arte Gótico

Exponent of the most suggestive and fascinating Gothic Art within the scope of the community and land of Navarra - regardless of whether the clergyman Aymeric Picaud, author of the Codex Calixtino or the first of the pilgrimage guides on the Camino de Santiago, felt an aversion to this fabulous land and its inhabitants - the church of Santa María, in Olite, is more than an excellent example of sacred architecture, which exposes, by itself, the importance that this medieval town had in the Middle Ages: it is a set of esoteric philosophies, that would make the mysterious theoretician of argotic reality or double meaning, underlying Gothic Art, rub their hands with enthusiasm, who always responded to the pseudonym Fulcanelli.

Wonderfully executed, his sculptures not only illustrate the main passages of the New Testament with an emotional charge of drama, as in the case of the slaughter of the innocent in Herod's time or the exorcist activities of Christ freeing the possessed, but also, Combined with that touch of defiant irony, numerous elements refer us to hidden knowledge, where the fantastic becomes the expression keys of a wisdom, both alchemical and occult, whose comprehension was only available to a few, to the point that even today, they continue to be not only a fascinating enigma, but also a true challenge.

Exponente del Arte Gótico más sugerente y fascinante dentro del ámbito de la comunidad y tierra de Navarra -independientemente de que el clérigo Aymeric Picaud, autor del Códice Calixtino o la primera de las guías de peregrinación del Camino de Santiago, sintiera aversión a esta fabulosa tierra y sus habitantes- la iglesia de Santa María, en Olite, es algo más que un excelente ejemplo de arquitectura sagrada, que expone, por sí misma, la importancia que tuvo en la Edad Media esta villa medieval: es un conjunto de filosofías esotéricas, que haría frotarse las manos de entusiasmo, a aquél misterioso teórico de la realidad argótica o del doble sentido, subyacente en el Arte Gótico, que respondió siempre al pseudónimo de Fulcanelli.

Maravillosamente ejecutadas, sus esculturas, no sólo ilustran sobre los principales pasajes neotestamentarios con una emotiva carga de dramatismo, como en el caso de la matanza de los inocentes en tiempos de Herodes o las actividades de exorcista de Cristo liberando poseídos, sino que, además, conjuntados con ese deje de desafiante ironía, numerosos elementos nos remiten a conocimientos soterrados, donde lo fantástico se convierte en claves de expresión de una sabiduría, tanto alquímica como ocultista, cuya comprensión sólo estaba al alcance de unos pocos, hasta el punto de que incluso hoy en día, continúan siendo, no sólo un fascinante enigma, sino también, un verdadero desafío.
