[ENG-SPN] Celebrating life / Festejando la vida

P1040297_edited.jpg

It seems undoubtable that life and its circumstances always obey some laws, apparently immutable, where this eternal confrontation between opposites keeps us continually immersed in the crosshairs of a universal overflow, which is nothing other than the inertia of it existence. That is to say, in an eternal dilemma, already well specified in one of the wisest books and by right, a World Heritage Site - although many deny it - which is none other than Ecclesiastes, where we are already warned that there is a time for everything in life: a time to live and another time to die; a moment of sadness followed by another moment of joy and so on, we could continue giving examples to infinity.

If yesterday I spoke of oblivion and death, remembering the miserable fate of many peoples of my land, today it can be a great healing to speak, on the contrary, of celebration and joy and to give, as an example worth living, part of the recreational activities of Bilbao's Big Week - the Aste Nagusia, as they call it there - where those river walks along the estuary have become fashionable again, where clubs and groups of friends drink, dance and sing with ease those old and unforgettable ones themes that saw them grow - or I would have to say, that saw us grow - and that they keep like a treasure in a very particular corner of that metaphorical Akasha Archive, which is nothing other than our particular trunk of memories.

Bilbao's Big Week looks a particularly jolly event. The surroundings where it is taking place looks bright and colorful and joyful as well with people milling about. I hope you did partake in the festivities. Thanks for writing and have a great day.

It is a great festival, which is celebrated at the end of August and of course, these things about the estuary are only small isolated scenes of what, in reality, is the whole of a very traditional festival with great animation, especially for the surroundings of the Old Town, which there, due to its peculiar shape, is called the Seven Streets. I have very good friends in Bilbao and I had the opportunity to enjoy, not only the parties, but something even more important: their company and their friendship.

I’ve never been on the boat before but I wish to experience it someday so I will know how it feels

Well, it's fun, especially if these barges are set up to hold small parties. I was at a night party a few months before the Covid-19 pandemic hit us and the truth is that I certainly had a good time. It is another way to get to know Bilbao, at night, with the lights reflecting in the waters.

Bilbao, today, is a cultural challenge. Or better yet: a five-star destination.

People, anywhere in the world, also need an escape valve that allows them to enjoy, even for a few short days, routine fatigue. Festivals, after all, are that necessary 'opium of the people'.
