[ENG-SPN] Burgos, a Labyrinth of Centuries / Burgos, un laberinto de siglos

P1200676.JPG

Once you pass through the mysterious lanterns of the medieval Puerta de Santa María, Burgos reveals itself as that great capital of Castile, a place that nurtured great writers like Miguel Delibes. It feels as if you've just stepped into a monumental time capsule, inviting you to dreamlike adventures. Like the numbers and initials of Antonio Machado's Paseo de los Enamorados (Lovers' Promenade), its diverse architectural styles define eras waiting to be discovered and styles to behold.

P1200669.JPG

These eras and styles, of course, always revolve around that metaphorical magnetic pole that is a cathedral, rightly considered a model of models. Even now, after centuries, its enigmatic character is capable of posing so many questions, so many enigmas, and so many riddles that, by comparison, the wisdom of the mythical Sphinx may even be called into question.

From Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles to the Modernism that, at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, revolutionized the austerity of architectural schools that still included Vitruvius's lofty propositions in their texts, a stroll through this veritable labyrinth of aesthetic structures is, ultimately, a deliberate exercise in challenge, a chance to enjoy an enriching cultural adventure. Here, even the smallest details sometimes reveal that invaluable treasure: the first glance, the moment when everything, however insignificant it may seem, appears as a whole world waiting to be discovered.

The designs of all the houses built in the past are quite unique, and even today they are stronger than the houses of today.

Many of them, despite having been rebuilt in relatively modern times, still retain that type of medieval architecture that considered height more important than width. From that point of view, yes, one could say they are unique.
