Welcome my dear travelers from the north and thank you very much for making a temporary stop in my post, sometimes I postpone movies for no apparent reason and I had planned to see this film almost a year and a half ago, in the end I decided to stop postponing it and gave it a try Pay attention to “The Northman” to see men breaking their faces with anything they can find. Bienvenidos mis queridos viajeros del norte y muchas gracias por hacer una parada temporal en mi post, a veces pospongo las películas sin ninguna razón aparente y el presente filme tenía pensado verlo hace casi año y medio, al final decidí dejar de postergarlo y le di por fin atención a “The Northman” para ver a hombres partiéndose la cara con cualquier cosa que encuentren. Sin más que agregar afilen sus hachas que estamos por comenzar.
The Northman was released in 2022, directed by Robert Eggers, produced by Focus Features and Searchlight Pictures, and has a duration of 2 hours and 17 minutes. It is an action and suspense film, the story focuses on Amleth, a young Viking prince who admires his father and wants to follow in his footsteps. After his father's return, he begins to prepare him to become his successor, however the Amleth's uncle decides to murder his father, kidnap his mother and destroy everything his brother ever built, consumed by anger the young man decides to prepare everything possible to take revenge for all the hardships that his uncle caused him.
The Northman fue estrenada en 2022, dirigida por Robert Eggers, producida por Focus Features y Searchlight Pictures, cuenta con una duración de 2 horas y 17 minutos. Es un filme de acción y suspenso, la historia se centra en Amleth un joven príncipe vikingo que admira a su padre y desea seguir sus pasos, tras el regreso de su padre este comienza a prepararlo para que se convierta en su sucesor, no obstante el tío de Amleth decide asesinar a su padre, secuestrar a su madre y destruir todo lo que su hermano alguna vez construyo, consumido por la ira el joven decide que se preparara todo lo posible para cobrar venganza de todas las penurias que su tío le causo.

The soundtrack is fascinating, throughout the film it maintains that medieval essence that feels extremely epic and wonderful, and it also excellently accompanies the different moments of action in the film.
La banda sonora es fascinante, a lo largo del filme esta mantiene esa esencia medieval que se siente sumamente épica y maravillosa, además, acompaña de forma excelente a los diferentes momentos de acción de la cinta.
The world building reflects a good job, in a good way the way of life of that time is represented by giving focus to both its culture and different activities that carry out, in turn, the violent and bloody nature of the society of that time. It is very well incorporated. On the other hand, the way in which religious beliefs are represented is a success by presenting various rituals and superstitions that have considerable weight within the setting. Added to this are the various visions that the protagonist has that it is not known if they form part of the part of the fantasy or if they are really happening giving a good touch of enigmatic to the context.
La construcción de mundo refleja un buen trabajo, de buena forma se representa la forma de vida de esa época al darle foco tanto a su cultura como a diferentes actividades que realizan, a su vez, la naturaleza violenta y sangrienta de la sociedad de aquella época se encuentra muy bien incorporada. Por otro lado, es un acierto la forma en que se representan las creencias religiosas al presentar diversos rituales y supersticiones que tienen un peso considerable dentro de la ambientación, a ello se le suman las diversas visiones que tiene el protagonista que no se sabe si forman parte de la fantasía o si realmente están pasando dándole un buen toque de enigmático al contexto.
The plot is divided into segments which give a good order to the narrative, the premise of the film is not really complex in any sense but despite this it knows how to use its elements well in order to get the most out of them possible, at the same time , correctly adds various moments of action and suspense that are implemented excellently by adding the violent factor characteristic of that time, as well as the fantasy that knows how to incorporate it in a good way. The duration feels used intelligently, every minute is used in a good way to develop the premise that, although it is simple, has a good development, there is one or another plot twist that is not the most complex in the world but that still the intention is appreciated.
La trama se encuentra dividida en segmentos los cuales le dan un buen orden a la narrativa, la premisa del filme no es realmente compleja en ningún sentido pero pese a ello sabe utilizar bien sus elementos a fin de sacarles el mayor provecho posible, a su vez, añade de forma acertada diversos momentos de acción y suspenso que son implementados de forma excelente al añadir el factor violento característico de aquella época, así como también la fantasía que sabe incorporarse de buena forma. La duración se siente utilizada de forma inteligente, cada minuto es empleado de buena forma para ir desarrollando la premisa que si bien es simple posee un buen desenvolviendo, existe uno que otro giro de la trama que no son los más complejos del mundo pero que igual se agradece la intención.
The characters are quite simple, none of them present a complex development, just some pleasant characterization, the protagonist is the one who stands out by having small nuances of change throughout the film, these do not give it overwhelming depth but they do give it a certain character more human; The rest of the characters don't have interesting traits, they are fine without being any kind of wonder. The antagonists aren't any kind of exceptional work, they're pretty bland overall.
Los personajes son bastante sencillos, ninguno presenta un desarrollo complejo solo alguna que otra caracterización agradable, el protagonista es el que destaca al ir teniendo pequeños matices de cambio a lo largo del filme, estos no le dan una abrumadora profundidad pero si le dan cierto carácter más humano; el resto de personajes no tienen rasgos interesantes, están bien sin ser ninguna clase de maravilla. Los antagonistas no son ninguna clase de trabajo excepcional, son bastante sosos a grandes rasgos.
The Northman fulfills what it promises, which is to show a Viking community in which their culture, their religion and insane amounts of carnage are present, all these elements give it that interesting character that makes it good enough to want to see it. It is for all of the above that it deserves 3.5 stars out of 7, highly recommended for those who wish to see Vikings cutting off heads and spilling exaggerated amounts of blood and viscera.
The Northman cumple con lo que promete que es el hecho de mostrar a una comunidad vikinga en la cual se encuentra presente su cultura, su religión y unas cantidades insanas de carnicería, todos estos elementos le dan ese carácter interesante que la hace suficientemente buena como para querer verla. Es por todo lo anterior que merecer 3.5 estrellas de 7, altamente recomendada para aquellos que deseen ver a vikingos cortando cabezas y derramando cantidades exageradas de sangre y vísceras.

No sabía que era basada en algo real y mucho menos de que fue inspiración para el dramaturgo de Shakespeare, es un dato interesante. Volviendo al filme, este cumple con lo que promete y si bien la cantidad de sangre que expone puede no ser del gusto de todos esta es más que necesaria si hablamos de los guerreros vikingos.
