[Animation review] [Eng | Esp] Hauru no Ugoku Shiro | Magic and technology should not be used in war
Welcome my dear traveling magicians of the internet and thank you very much for making a temporary stop in my post, if you have been following me for a while you will know that I greatly admire the animated work of Studio Ghilbli because it has earned my respect thanks to its wonderful way of create stories, the film that brings us together today is called "Hauru no Ugoku Shiro", which presents a magical world that is about to be immersed in a bloody and violent war. Without further ado, get ready to climb Howl's castle because we are about to begin.
Bienvenidos mis queridos magos viajeros del internet y muchas gracias por hacer una parada temporal en mi post, si llevan un tiempo siguiéndome sabrán que admiro mucho el trabajo animado del Studio Ghilbli debido a que se ha ganado a pulso mi respeto gracias a su forma maravillosa de crear historias, el filme que hoy nos reúne tiene por nombre "Hauru no Ugoku Shiro" que presenta un mundo mágico que está por verse sumergido en una sanguinaria y violenta guerra. Sin más que agregar prepárense para subir al castillo de Howl pues estamos por comenzar.
Hauru no Ugoku Shiro was released in 2004, it is based on the 1986 novel "Howl's Moving Castle" written by Diana Wynne Jones, the film was directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli, it has a duration of 1 hour and 59 minutes. It is a fantasy and adventure animation, the story takes place in a world in which both magic and technology are very present in society, in this world a young woman named Sophie dedicates herself to making hats, however everything changes when she encounters a witch who casts a curse on her which makes her look old and affects her completely, having this terrible curse on her, she decides to go out in search of a magician to help her, this task will not be easy at all with the war attempts that exist. .
Hauru no Ugoku Shiro fue estrenada en 2004, se encuentra basada en la novela "Howl's Moving Castle" de 1986 escrita por Diana Wynne Jones, la cinta fue dirigida por Hayao Miyazaki y producida por Studio Ghibli, cuenta con una duración de 1 hora y 59 minutos. Es una animación de fantasía y aventura, la historia se desarrolla en un mundo en el cual tanto la magia como la tecnología se encuentra muy presentes en la sociedad, en este mundo una joven llamada Sophie se dedica a hacer sombreros, sin embargo todo cambia cuando se topa con una bruja que le lanza una maldición la cual la hace lucir vieja y le afecta completamente, teniendo este terrible maleficio encima decide salir en busca de algún mago que le ayude, está tarea no será nada sencilla con las tentativas de guerra que existen.

The animation is excellent as expected, it has a wonderful fluidity which makes all the actions feel very organic, at the same time, the beautiful landscapes and effects it houses are to be envied since they make this world feel alive and be completely beautiful.
La animación es excelente como es de esperarse, cuenta con una fluidez maravillosa la cual hace que todas las acciones se sientan muy orgánicas, a su vez, los hermosos paisajes y efectos que alberga son de envidiar puesto que hacen que este mundo se sienta vivo y sea completamente hermoso.
This section also feels well worked out, the soundtrack is largely composed of instrumental music that fits the film like a glove, and together with the animation they completely facilitate immersion in the film.
Este apartado también se siente bien trabajado, la banda sonora está compuesta en gran medida por música instrumental que le viene como anillo al dedo al filme, siendo que de la mano con la animación facilitan completamente la inmersión en la cinta.
The world building proposes a society where both magic and technology coexist; these elements have a notable presence in the setting since both are used to shape the world that is presented to us. On the other hand, there is the war conflict between two nations that develops throughout the film, being a fact that does not leave locals and strangers exempt because its advance is denoted in the setting with its trail of destruction and death, becoming a topic that acts as an excellent agent of change in the context.
La construcción de mundo plantea una sociedad en dónde convive tanto la magia como la tecnología, estos elementos tienen una presencia notoria en la ambientación puesto que ambas son utilizadas para moldear el mundo que se nos presenta. Por otro lado, se encuentra el conflicto bélico entre dos naciones que se va desarrollando a lo largo del filme, siendo un hecho que no deja exentos a propios y extraños debido a que su avance se va denotando en la ambientación con su rastro de destrucción y muerte, volviéndose un tema que actúa como un excelente agente de cambio en el contexto.
The plot is somewhat complex despite what it may seem at first, this means that in order to understand the different events the viewer must be attentive to the small details and be able to understand the various enigmas. The use of moments of tension is very well achieved because they are events that weigh more and more and that affect both the characters and their response to them, in addition to this the need to have to face them is evident. a war that does not concern them but in which they are dragged into, giving the film even more complexity. Finally, it is necessary to highlight some of the twists that it uses, at no time do they feel taken out of hand or out of place, the film takes the time to leave clues so that the viewer can intuit what the resolution of the problems will be like various conflicts.
La trama es algo compleja pese a lo que pueda parecer en un primer momento, esto hace que para poder entender los diferentes acontecimientos el espectador deba estar atento a los pequeños detalles y poder comprender los diversos enigmas. El uso de momentos de tensión se encuentra muy bien logrado debido a que son sucesos que van pesando cada vez más y que van afectando tanto a los personajes como a su respuesta hacia estos, aunado a eso se evidencia la necesidad de tener que hacer frente a una guerra que no les incumbe pero en la que se ven arrastrados dándole aún más complejidad al filme. Por último, es menester destacar algunos giros de tuerca que emplea, en ningún momento estos se sienten sacados de la manga o fuera de lugar, el filme se toma el tiempo para ir dejando pistas para que el espectador pueda intuir como será la resolución de los diversos conflictos.
The characters are mostly worked impeccably, the main ones have an unmatched charisma added to their own drawbacks that gives them a certain air of individuality, the above serves as a pillar to make them evolve when facing their own problems. I will highlight Sophie and Howl because they both have an expected and pleasant growth in equal parts, the first when facing adversities trying to prevent them from affecting her, having the obligation to accept that she cannot change what happens but she can change the way that affects him, the second having the obligation to face his mistakes, leaving his imbecilities behind and seeing the need to be responsible in order to overcome his conflicts; At the same time, the relationship that develops between them is simply wonderful, as is the way they interact with the rest of the characters. There are some antagonists and secondary characters that, although they are not focused on in depth, manage to stand out due to their presence and/or some actions that made them stand out.
Los personajes son trabajados de una forma impecable en su mayoría, los principales tienen un carisma inigualable sumado a sus propios inconvenientes que les da cierto aire de individualidad, lo anterior funge como pilar para hacerlos evolucionar al enfrentar sus propios problemas. Destacaré a Sophie y a Howl debido a que ambos tienen un crecimiento esperable y agradable a partes iguales, la primera al enfrentarse a las adversidades tratando de impedir que estas le afecten teniendo la obligación de aceptar que no puede cambiar lo que pasa pero si la forma en que le afecte, el segundo teniendo la obligación de hacer frente a sus errores dejando atrás sus imbecilidades y viéndose en la necesidad de ser responsable para así superar sus conflictos; a su vez, la relación que se va dando entre ellos es sencillamente maravillosa, así como la forma en que interactúan con el resto de personajes. Existen algunos antagonistas y personajes secundarios que si bien no son enfocados a profundidad estos logran destacarse por su presencia y/o por algunas acciones que los hicieron destacar.
Hauru no Ugoku Shiro is an excellent film with a more than palpable message against war, it knows how to build an interesting world that matters to the viewer and that captivates them with its different peculiarities, the above gains strength due to its characters who reinforce those themes that manage to captivate with their different individual difficulties. It is for all the above that it deserves 4 stars out of 7, a more than captivating animation that is pleasant to see even more than once to be able to enjoy its magnificent world on more than one occasion.
Hauru no Ugoku Shiro es un filme excelente con un mensaje en contra la guerra más que palpable, sabe construir un mundo interesante que le importe al espectador y que lo cautive con sus diferentes particularidades, lo anterior cobra fuerza debido a sus personajes los cuales refuerzan esos temas que logran cautivar con sus diferentes dificultades individuales. Es por todo lo anterior que merece 4 estrellas de 7, una animación más que atrapante que resulta agradable el verla incluso más de una vez para poder disfrutar en más de una oportunidad su mundo tan magnífico.
