Aftershock

I found this book at the local Goodwill for couple bucks. The topic definitely interests me. Aftershock: The Next Economy & America's Future, was written by Robert B. Reich, who I've learned was the Secretary of Labor during the Clinton administration. It's no surprise this book is very kind politically to the Democrats. It was written just two years after the 2008 recession, and sought to predict the future we are living in now. The first part of the book was Reich gushing over Keynes, labor unions, the Federal Reserve, government intervention, and centralized planning. The remainder of the book is him trying to convince the reader how continued implementations of these things is the right direction for America. I thought it was informative in terms of the history and description of many of the issues leading up to the 'Great Recession', and many that we still face today. Despite much of what he wanted in terms of monetary and fiscal policy since the recession, we still spiral downward. I just felt like I was being propagandized the entire time I was reading this book. I feel that recent history is proving him to be wrong. I won't be keeping this book on my shelf. I can get the same information from other books without being propagandized. Still it is useful to read the opposite side of an argument here and there to challenge your own convictions.

The Daily Laws and The Daily Stoic

One last thing! I received the books below as a Christmas gift in time for the new year. Each book has 366 chapters, meant to be read one chapter per day of the year. I won't be able to do a full review on them until 2023! The Greene book should be interesting, as I've already read other works by him. The other book I'm not quite sure about, but I've always been a fan of stoic philosophy.

I am also a big fan of reading and listening to stuff that challenges my thoughts and views. Contrary to what my wife thinks, I am not so stuck in my ways and have been known to change my mind on occasion:-)

I always complain about the echo chambers, I try not to stick myself in one. Cheers!
