Disenchantment

That tavern-like meeting place was the hippest thing in town.

It was in a remote and secret place, accessible only to a small group of people who worked in the company where he worked and he had the luck or misfortune to be one of the chosen ones.

Every night he would stop by for free drinks, have fun playing the latest generation of video games, which included virtual reality headsets, and recreate his view of the beautiful half-naked girls who served the customers.

But his most intimate desire, and that was the reason for his recurring visit, was to meet the girl who swam in a large pond next to some fish.

Her green eyes and figure that had nothing to envy to a mermaid, caught him from the first moment.

It was a dream come true.

She had a grace that the best ballet dancers would envy, with a perfect rhythm that gave her arms and legs a supernatural charm.

It was a platonic and silent love.

Until one day disappointment pierced his heart.

One night he was willing to communicate somehow with her to know her name and establish a friendship, but that night she was not there.

"Maybe it's his day off" he thought

But for a week he didn't show up and he went to the person who managed the place and asked him.

-Why haven't I seen the girl in the pond anymore?

-The machine was damaged and we have not been able to repair it.

His neurons began to process millions of pieces of data per millisecond, until they reached a logical conclusion.

Somehow she had to provide oxygen to his lungs, as he didn't remember seeing it coming out of there, so he deduced that some invisible hoses did.

-And how can I get in touch with her?

Now the surprised one was the site manager.

-I don't understand. Contact who?

-To the girl in the pond.

He thought for a few seconds and answered her sharply:

-That's impossible, she doesn't exist, she's a hologram.

He understood then that his platonic love was a simple computer program.

He left the place and did not return.

Oh, such a painful realization for our poor narrator! Well, it must have been a very realistic hologram. And certainly it's better than falling in love with a blow-up doll (like the guy in Lars and the Real Girl.) I really enjoyed this story, @joseph1956.

I have some helpful suggestions for a few of your pronouns:

"his" should be "her":

"Maybe it's his day off" he thought

The first "he" should be "she":

But for a week he didn't show up and he went to the person who managed the place and asked him.

Thank you for sharing your work in The Ink Well!

Oh yeah, one finds himself in such a situation if he falls in love in a distant relation or even worse if it happens to be an imaginary one.

Muy cautivadora tu historia. Seguramente el holograma era muy atractiva a la vista de aquel enamorado.
