The Meaning Of Success From A Spiritual Perspective (ecoTrain QOTW)

Success is often defined by physical achievements; Wealth, fulfillment, acceptance, popularity and even notoriety. This is how we've come to see and accept it for a very long time. Another thing is that, we have the notion that success has to be visible, it needs to be seen, felt or talked about in other for it to be provable. Because we feel that success needs to be seen to be proved, we find it difficult to accept that internal fulfillment or something like contentment is considered to be success.

Originally success would share a deeper meaning if a larger population of the human race are more spiritually inclined. But not a lot of people are. Adolf Hitler killing six million Jews was a huge definition of notoriety, inasmuch as nobody had ever done that before, he was tagged with being success at a particular task, even if it made him infamous, it was still the definition of negative success.

Success: Figures, Metrics & Numbers

This is to say that not all success is positive. When we can simply attach the concept of success to negativity and positivity, how then would we generally come to terms with the fact that success can even have another meaning? To simply put it, spiritual success is not a thing. In fact when people take a bold step to be spiritually inclined in their lives, it's often called a personal achievement. So, we frequently feel that success needs to be impactful.

We attach metrics of facts, figures, charts and graphs for success to be provable. For example, if a person begins to find fulfillment or experience a supernatural inclination for the metaphysical, because it's subjective we cannot say it's a generalized definition of success. So in order to say that spiritual achievement can be considered as a success, our generalized mindset of success, needs to double down, then we need to cultivate the mindset that success should be personal and definitive.

Doubting Our Personal Interpretation To The Diverse Meaning Of Success

Practically, not many people can talk about success on a spiritual plane. You'd firstly have to know and experience spirituality. You'd have to have seen a miracle, feeding the spirit and giving less to the flesh, experiencing a huge awakening, a near-death experience or even a driving force to seek for spiritual wealth. While we're always on our question to chase material things, we find it hard to imagine any other thing as the definition of success. Because we want to personally prove to others that we're up and doing.

We have certain standards to meet, we have expectations, responsibilities, and we're out to prove people wrong, especially when they doubt how far we can go in life. This blinds us, we tend to kill whatever definition of success we might hold, simply to reach that peak where people would define us as successful people. The feeling is unmatchable, because we don't believe in our personal definition of success, we wake up every day to achieve earthly things not minding the ripple effect, provided we're reckoned with as successful people.

What Then Is Success From A Spiritual Perspective?

Nevertheless, spiritual success is when you've personally unlocked a level of inner fulfillment, experienced a life-changing wholesomeness. When you've sought spiritual for knowledge and found it. A lot of people spend their lifetime seeking to know God, doubting if all religion leads to God, many are finding it hard to sweep through the endless doctrines of mankind in a bid to find the true path that leads to God.

Our definition of "who" and "what" God is can be different, sometimes we get a point where we realized that we've been wrong all along. A few people have been fortunate to find the answers they're looking for. Finding your way in a maze of confusion where conflicting and contrasting beliefs are rampant is a true definition of spiritual success. Now spiritual success is more than that, it's varies on our diverse experience.

From A Personal Experience

This means we cannot totally tell what's success from a spiritual perspective because perspectives are meant to be personal, and it would be difficult to totally acquaint ourselves with the perspectives of everyone. A long time ago, I was in a dark place, I couldn't fully wrap my head around the existence of God simply because I couldn't feel his physical manifestation upon my life. I felt unlucky to be alive.

I felt that I could have been better, and it was unfair to allow the circumstances of my birth affect my whole life, however, when I got older, I stopped blaming God for my ills and inadequacies, in fact, there was this lady I met, her life oozed of sweetness, there was this flow of beauty that radiated in her soul and in fact, she wasn't even rich whatsoever. To attain a stage where I worried less of my inadequacies was a spiritual achievement for me. It downed my depression. The life of the lady in question influenced me to the point that I changed inwardly, unlocking peace to thrive on daily basis.

Hmmm...

First, I feel the spiritual is a complex situation and so it is not most times understood and so the concept of success in spiritual terms might not be understandable.

A person like Adeboye can be said to be spiritually successful

So for me, spiritual success might be when you have a beautiful with the spiritual realm such that it affects your physical.

I life the fact that you've stated what spiritual success means to you, this is why I personally feel it's purely subjective and personal and because it's this way, we cannot totally come to a definitive meaning of spiritual success. It's quite relative and tapping into some of our uncommon experiences. Thanks for dropping by.

The spiritual aspect can come in different perspectives which may be in the form of people paving their ways to the path to success whole some are trying hard to add some sorts of ritualistic thoughts still on the way to get successful.

I am still trying to convince myself that we are more than mere blood and bones specimens. But perhaps there is something beyond the physical. I will definitely delve deeper into what you conveyed.

Yeah OK, you win - no need to ask questions to draw a response to this post ;)

As anyone gets older, I think they become more reflective in their own lives, and that places value on some kind of spiritual awakening or meaning. I've been to funerals before, where there was such confidence that the person was in Heaven, and the sentiment was to celebrate their life - and recognise they'd gone 'home'.

At other funerals, there is a heavy sadness, and no mention of religion. There was a lingering sense of despair for the departed person.

Maybe this is one of the paradoxes of life: we can judge a person's spiritual success, or want to engage with that question, only after they die.
