Hive's Vote Weight: Balancing Priorities & Opportunity Costs.

avatar

png_20220322_075413_000002.jpeg

In the past, I used to show up on Hive every day, do the necessary activities and still have about 75% left on my vote weight and at times when my curation activities weren't heavy I used to have about 80% left on my vote weight while switching my autovote and stopping curation manually, leaving it to recharge throughout the night.

Nowadays, it's hard to keep up with this.

This is majorly because my Hive power is growing at a steady pace, compounding with little powerups, plus post and curation rewards gotten from my posts as well. Nevertheless, the growth of my stake isn't proportional to the growth of my audience, my acquaintance and people I've taken to voting constantly.

Because engagement is my fetish, I find it difficult to leave a good engager hanging without doubling back to their account, following and voting them. This might be a bane, the caveat is that it leaves me unable to recharge my vote weight, because the numbers are consistently increasing.

So what do I do?

What I do sometimes is to constantly reshuffle my auto and manual votes, but there's also a repercussion to this; shuffling the votes makes some account, continually expectant, disappointed and finally angry.

Limitation in life is something we have to constantly find a mitigation for.

It's always present in our needs, our quest to make money, the need to check and balance and even in our fear. Sometimes I try to imagine, what if It we all have everything we want in abundance, what will the essence of life be then? I mean, competition somewhat stems from scarcity, when people have enough they wouldn't feel like competition is actually essential.

But is living in limitation totally a bad thing? I think the answer is no. Sometimes we're hurt by the fact that we cannot totally express the degree to which we want or desire something, the positive side of this is that when there's Limitation, we strive to attain satisfaction by seeking for moderation. Originally, there's a limit to how far we can go. There's a limit to what our body and mind can physically and mentally achieve.

Money, Work; A Cycle, Then Repeat

If it was possible, some people would work for 24-hours if it means more money. Sometimes our bodies are like vote weight, no matter how extra we push it just to achieve more, we just need to recharge it to achieve constant efficiency. People work throughout their lives to make money, but without taking the needed time to rest, it could be fatal to their health.

In a bid to satisfy the extra needs people work multiple jobs and when these needs become innumerable, it'll be hard for them to catch up especially because there's a limit to how much the body can take. In life, the moment our finances grows, our commitments automatically grows. This includes satisfying external and internal expectations.

But what if we cannot keep growing the finances proportionally with the growth of commitments that requires money to solve them? It means we will now begin to set up scales of preferences.

Need & Opportunity Costs

For every need we decide to meet, there's an opportunity cost that is sacrificed. These opportunity cost might come in form of people. But how then do we create a believability to the ever-increasing requirements that we constantly have to adhere to?

How do we convince people that our supports for them wouldn't be constant as it used to be because we want to accommodate others without creating a sense of entitlement or a feeling of disappointment? This is basically hard. Sometimes it's difficult to comprehend how limitation is etched into our core.

The Way Hive is design reflects reality, even if it's a decentralized blockchain that's meant to revolutionize so many aspects of the human lives.

The human factor is always there. Crypto and blockchain in general shouldn't change the model of man's economic & financial system, this is because it isn't totally bad, it's only partially flawed this is why it should rather be improvised.

Limitation: A Realistic Phenomenon

It isn't bad that we always have to deal with limitation as a realistic phenomenon. I do believe that moderation is crucial to every aspect of life. As for Hive, I just deem it that anyone who cannot accept that sometimes they can become a priority and another time they can become an opportunity cost in an endless cyclical shuffling, then it'll be difficult to build a non-monetary relationship with this sort of people. Sometimes we don't like the idea of being limited.

I'm not totally sad that I cannot attend to every need that because of limitation. I think one of the best ways to mitigate this is to be creative in ways where we can channel what we have to attain a balance.

The fact that my vote weight needs to recharge to regain efficiency is great for the chain and irrespective of the feedbacks, I think I'll continue to shuffle and spreading it as my acquaintances here on Hive continues to grow.

Interesting piece as always. This makes me think a bit more on the thin line between investment and spending, it kinda share a similar measure, if one chooses to spend, he sacrifices the investment, and if he chooses to invest, he sacrifices what was to be spent on, which in most cases is human and their needs.

But that's just life, this things happen to create a balance, hive is no exception when it comes to this, there's always a need for creativity, to me that's what steams up and mitigates the potential disappointments.

Yeah, you're absolutely right, I do think that the essense is creating a balance. Sometimes I try as much as possible to maintain my curation while reaching a sizeable number of people, but it's always difficult as contents are growing each day and there's the need to expand my curation to satiate everyone.
However, I am still looking for a way to balance it out.

Uhm, I'd say you can't possibly reach everyone, the way to balance it would just been to span at your convenience, there's a number of more hive users(curators), so the entire community creates the ultimate balance together, having placed an upvote somewhere, one way or the other...

It's interesting how you put this together, it was like you were just reelling out the thoughts on my mind.

it's funny anyone will actually take it up as an offence when you stop and Auto v on the account.

Humans can often be entitled however. This is hive, nothing is given except it is deserved and even when it is deserved it may not be guaranteed.

It's not even good to feel deserved, because curators go through a lot of things.sometimes I have over 100 accounts to vote and it can be overwhelming and miss out on many accounts. But I do try my best.

It's an interesting dilemma and I have to agree that things are tough. I appreciate any votes I do get but I don't really take them for granted. Obviously, it's just a part of my own normal routine now for commenting and it's just something I enjoy.

Voting is a show of appreciation for someone's post and for you claiming that value. I don't use auto votes, but rather prefer reading posts on a daily basis somehow like reading a newspaper.

I use autovotes especially when I can't keep up. The truth is, it's important to appreciate every votes, feeling deserved of it makes it difficult to shuffle it. I do manual votes as well to. Thanks for the comment.

Even though my vote weight barely gets attention, these days I am also struggling with the recharge ratio.
Almost drained, I had to stop voting to make some progress again and it's been 2 days I am in recharging mode.

The process of recharging can be somewhat stressful.

shuffling the votes makes some account, continually expectant, disappointed and finally angry.

Lol... I had to laugh at that one!

At one point or the other we are all bound to face same issue if we are active here which brings in continuous growth and expansion of followers.
I am having same issue but what I do is, reduce my vote percentage wise on few of the regular content I support so as to accommodate a newer user whose content I find resonating with me on the day.

Yeah, i've lost followers in the past because I tweaked my votes and reshuffled it. The truth is, curation is a responsibility and sometimes it's difficult. We have to make choices at all time. I curate over 50 accounts daiy and sometimes im left 68% of my vote weight, which doesn't make my vote potent, so I have to recharge, I wish many can actually Understand this.

Relatable bro! I burn my VP on Hive and Leo to 40s quite often. It sucks but I want to give heavy upvotes to the content I like and people who engage with me.

Well, it sucks too, but for those who have huge voting power, I think it's not going to be a problem.

Yes, if I had like a $10 upvote, it would have been great. 😂 It will take a few years to reach there.

I don't have much to say in terms of vote weight because I'm still not at the point where my vote is significant enough to be thinking about recharge ratios, but I can offer some perspective on the part of limitations. In my experience, a limitation only becomes a problem when we resist it. If we accept the restriction, or better still, if we impose it on ourselves willingly, the limitation becomes discipline rather than obstacle. Like you say, moderation is essential for balance.

I definitely have to accept that the limitation isn't a problem, the reason why I sometimes think it is is because it feels like I need to reach more people even if I'm limited to a certain extent. With vote weight, it's quite complex. But thanks for looking at it from that angle. Grateful for stopping by.
