Let's talk about Last Weekend - Hivelingual - Cockney Accent

What's good The Weekend, my name is Jon Snow (lord commander of my bedroom) and today I'm featuring this video in the community so we can know each other a bit more, besides talking about some things I did last weekend.

To summarize it all. Last weekend was focused on watching TV shows, Especifially Peaky Blinders, and studying the accent of a certain character whose name is Alfie Solomons. You see, English is not my native language yet is one I managed to learn myself over the course of the years.

I find this particular accent (Alfie Solomons) really interesting, amusing, charismatic, and hard to learn. I did just a bit a of research and it seems that the way that represents more this character when he speaks is the Cockney accent, or some sort of variation which is mostly related to east-london.

I also practiced myself a lot because I feel kind of rusty when it comes to speaking. I feel my English right now is slightly broken and I want to put the pieces together.

There's a reason for that though, and that's why my friend @pacoandujar and I are going to (hopefully soon) introduce a new community related to teaching English to the Hispanic Hive Users, and possibly add other languages as the project grows.

It's suffice to say that it's highly important to me if you can watch the video and objectively rate my English in order to know where I'm standing at. For that I'd be grateful. A new weekend is coming, therefore, I wish good fortune on this one. Hive On.

If you want to promote your new community I'm all for it, however, it would have been nice if you'd asked me if it would be ok to promote your community inside of my own prior to doing so.

I trust you'll do so in the future.

Also, just mentioning the words I watched TV on the weekend doesn't really constitute weekend content; the link to the weekend in this post is tenuous at best and clearly it's a post designed simply to market your own community, not engage with mine.

Greetings Galenkp. I really appreciate the feedback. You can trust I'll do this in the future (about promotion). I would like to state that my intenton wasn't promoting a community that's not even set up properly yet. All of this was innocent from my part and didn't see it the way you're looking at it but totally understand. I don't know if you have noticed but this is mainly a video content where I speak about things I did on the weekend (even though it wasn't much in regards of activity). I mentioned the community I'm working on because the reason I did the activities I said over the weekend are related to it, again, my intention wasn't to give it a shout to a community that's not even properly set up. If you watch the video (don't know if you did) I only took less than 30 seconds to mention it and even give shouts to your community in the intro and during the video via images. At the end of the video, if you see, I have my doubts regarding video content in The Weekend. As for the text, I tried to fulfill the rule of 250+ words but as you can see my content is mainly on the video. Next time I'll ask if I have any doubts. If you need me to edit something from the text or title, please let know. Thanks again for the feedback. Best Regards.

Firstly, I'm not upset with you, and respect your efforts in setting up a new community, however felt inclined to comment as I felt/feel your post was a promotion and not intrinsically weekend-related.

I'm happy to help promote people and concepts, as a look back through my history here on Hive will show,, although I need to control my community [which I've worked hard to build] as I want it to present as a place people can come for enjoyment rather than a place filled with promotions, spam, cross-posts and other such content. I mute them, which, you will note I have not done with yours here.

I think, over time, you will come to understand my point of view as you roll out your new community as I think you may feel the same; I don't believe anyone would like something they have worked hard to build to go off on a tangent and get out of control or become skewed from the core purpose.

You probably do not know, but in the past I have run contests to bring awareness to certain [new] communities with up to 100 Hive [my own hive] in prizes for entrants and have had 60+ entries each time. Each community has seen a sharp increase in subscribers. It is my way of helping new communities which I feel will have lasting value to the blockchain. Maybe this is something we could discuss although I'm not an Spanish speaker so it may be irrelevant for me to be there on your community helping.

Having said all that, I appreciate your measured response and understanding in as far as the mood, tone and feel of my community goes and I also appreciate the polite and courteous manner in which you have responded to me.

It is my hope you'll return with some content however if you choose not to that is ok also. I also look forward to seeing how your community rolls out and how you present it.

Thanks for your understanding and I hope you have an excellent weekend.

This reply is very valuable to me in many aspects. I totally understand your points and actually agree with them. My experience with communities is not vast but I have seen and have some idea (and don't) of what it takes to keep a community clean and fulfilling its purpose. Of course I'll be back with more content, no reason not to. I would gladly accept discussing with you about ways to help this endeavour after all is set up. I hope you have an awesome weekend, too. Cheers.

I understood 85% of what you said, I dare say 90% even.

The idea of creating a language academy community is a super cool idea, you even leave the door open for other languages, excellent. I will be waiting to get active and learn in HiveLingual.

Do you speak English champ? That's great to see. We can have future conversations when we open up the conversational club and improve our English together. Awesome. See you on the field.

What's good Bro. I still feel kinda rusty but it's great that is at least understandable. Need to practice more most definitely. Thanks for the feedback bro. Got to reach out. Will do later tonight.

Me parece una idea genial. Estaré atenta a esa comunidad para aprender ese idioma, considero que es de gran utilidad y nos ayudará a mejorar nuestras publicaciones. The video looks great! My regards!

Well I like it, I am one of those who understand much of the language but I dont practice speaking it because i ashamed, but I understand more or less, humbly I give you a 9/10 and it is not because it is a perfect pronunciation because as you say its still a little rustic, but the simple fact that you have learned on your own and practice it very little, is more than enough to have that score, you should only improve small details of pronunciation but you have all the lexicon that is the most important.

I also love Tom Hardy's accent and i also noticed the same as you, the man has a lot of facility to change it when he wants and how he wants with every role he plays, besides his performances.

On the other hand I find it difficult to distinguish accents in England itself, however for example I love the accents of Tom Hiddleston and singers like Sam Smith or Daniel Smith (bastille singer), but when the accent comes from the rest of United Kingdom like Ireland I love for example Michael Fassber's or Coling O'Donoghue's or when it comes from Scotland like James McAvoy's, I like those more, they sound impressive and more sexy haha sorry but it's my appreciation, i reallyyyy like those more.

On the other hand, moving away from Europe, there are some that I don't understand at all, for example Australian English haha that's a super complicated thing for me almost imposible.

I'm going to join the community right now, it's going to be interesting to learn with you @jonsnow1983 and @pacoandujar. Good luck in the community!!!! 🤗💞

Hey brother! I'm not that sure but I have always thought that the good old Alfie Solomons has got a bit of a Welsh accent. 😋 Anyhow, in HiveLingual we'll get to try some different accents though mine -usually- is an "All American" accent, at least so they tell me here in Europe. "Blody english!"

And, I might say, your english level is good, brother but as we always say, we'll improve together!
