Meet Pebbles, My Fur-Baby: I Finally Adopted a Puppy!

(Edited)

Good day, all pet lovers! This is my first blog post here in this community, as I just got a pet of my own. This post hopes to get pieces of advice from all of you, on how to get this fur parent role right. See, my decision on adopting a puppy was pretty drastic. Contrary to my usual self who's always careful when making decisions (especially on career and general life major decisions), this one was instant and there was no second thought for me. To be pretty sure I was straightforward, this was how it went:

My niece: chatted me via Messenger Tita, we have a puppy here in our house who needs to get adopted.
Me: I'll adopt her.
My niece: in disbelief Huh? You're joking, right?
Me: No. Seriously, I'm gonna do it. I'm adopting a puppy. How can I get her?
My niece: called me in Facebook Messenger to check if I was serious lol Hi Tita, are you sure? Will you adopt Pebbles? She's so cute, look...

And the rest is history.

I cannot get over her "surprised look". But it gets me every time.

When I got home, I told my parents about it, and both of them STRONGLY DISAGREED on this whole me-getting-a-pet thing.
Papa: Our house is too small for a dog. You're certainly not doing the poor puppy a favor by adopting her. (Loosely translated from Cebuano-Visayan language)
Mama: You'll be working most of the week, who's gonna take care of the puppy? I cannot take care of another living thing anymore because there's so much to do in the house, and I'm not getting any younger.
Both parents: DO NOT ADOPT A DOG!

I weighed what my parents told me: they were both right. Moreover, as I ponder on the matter, I think, I just think, maybe I'm not yet ready for this responsibility. I was ready to give up the puppy and was going to chat a friend who might be interested in adopting.

But then I remembered something. I was planning on having my own puppy since 2017. I even wrote it on my journal. And now I have a chance on actually doing this particular thing I've been meaning to act on.

And so I stuck with my decision.

Even with opposition, I adopted the puppy. She already had a name, Pebbles, so I did not change it so that she will not have a hard time adjusting to what she's used to be called.

AND SHE CHANGED MY MAMA'S MIND. NOW OUR MOTHER LOVES PEBBLES YAYYY🥳🤩🥰❤️

SHE'S ABSOLUTELY 10000% ADORABLE. At first. For as long as it lasts lol. Next thing you know, she's biting this and that haha. But she's still a cute furball. My cute furball baby.

I got her last December 6th. OH IT HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY ONE MONTH SINCE I GOT HER. YAY FOR A MONTH WITH THIS BABY!!

She's turning four months this 16th of January. She's gonna be a big girl soon😭 But not literally because her size will always be small, as she's a Princess Shih Tzu. 🥰

I am glad I adopted Pebbles. Everyone in the family loves her (well except our Papa who generally do not like dogs hehe). My Mama loves Pebbles and takes care of her like she's her granddaughter. My nieces are so happy playing with her, too! ❤️

Sidenote
TO BE REAL: I just realized how costly it is to adopt huhu. As I did not think my decision through, so it all goes back to me HUHU. Vaccinations for protection and anti-rabies are costly. The dog food is somewhat expensive, too. BUT I have to work hard so I can provide a good future for my pup. ALSO: IT IS SO TIRESOME TO CLEAN AFTER MY PUPPY'S PEE AND POOP. 😭 There are lots of times I am awaken in the middle of the night by family members telling me to pick up the poop and throw it it the trash can. Argh. But I cannot have the puppy-cuteness without some picking-the-poop tiresome work lol. No pain no gain. Haha.

What are your suggestions on how to take care of this puppy (breed: Shih Tzu)?
Do they need to be active and running at least once a week?
Is it healthy for dogs, or even puppies, to eat human tablefood?
Is it really true that it's bad for baby shih tzus to shower every week?
When will female dogs start to menstruate (when their a year old)?
What are your best practices when taking care of a puppy?

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME IN READING THIS ARTICLE AND THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENTS/SUGGESTIONS AS WELL! 🙏😘

‘Til the next post, hivers! Remember that you are loved beyond borders and beyond time & space. Okay? Okay. 💛❤️

Ciao for now! 🤗🥰

Yay Pebbles! so cute!! :) I only had 2 boy beagles so far, but i know that all dogs need some excercise. u are lucky that Pebbles is small, so she gets some exercise just moving around the house, but would also want daily walks.. even a short walk around the block.. on the leash.. it teaches them discipline as well as physical exercise.. it's also a mental exercise and bonding for her and u.

we had Dobby (our last beagle) while we were living in a condo in quezon city. so he grew to be pretty too big for that condo, but anyway, we had those square pee pads (the disposable one u buy at pet store or we got em at S&R). it didn't stop him 100% from peeing all over, but he would always poop there since it's the most grass-like thing he sees or perhaps he knows he should?, unless he was mad at u and then he purposely would go somewhere he know he shouldn't). so, 90% effective. then we would use toilet tissue to pick up his poop and flush it down the toilet, although i don't think this is good or proper for the septic system. oops. this cuts down on always buying new pads, but once they get soaked or dirty, just throw away.

Omg huhu soooo sorry if this is a late response @chinito MY INTERNET'S BEEN CRAZY AFTER ODETTE, the thread of comments for this post seem to not load😭

Thank you for these helpful pieces of advice! ♥️

I'm struggling with potty training her but I'm happy that one day at a time, she's peeing in the right place (pee pad) but she's pooping, well... On some places inappropriate 😅😥 It's a challenge to keep her silent sometimes because she's too HYPERACTIVE 🥺😅

Oooh you had a beagle? That's awesome! They're also cute and very friendly.

Hope you have a great week ahead! 💕

Wow! Pebbles is such a cutie miss @jongcl 💗💗 My family has 13 dogs currently most of them are shipoo (Shih Tzu and Poodle mixed). In your case, please don't feed Pebbles table food hihi because she will not gonna like dog food anymore. And it will be difficult to find a food that she will want in the future. So keep on feeding her with dog foods lang po. And as what you said, it's hassle talaga when it comes to their poops hihi but sooner, you'll figure it out na after they it they will poop and pee. And you can train her to pee and poop in a specific area. It's hassle in the beginning but the therapy they can give you po is unmeasurable ☺️💗

Yayyy thank you for the advice @generosesity! 😘💕❤️ Huhu she's already started with a mix of feeds and table food, since she was introduced to human food when we were in Minglanilla 😢 and I'm glad that she's peeing in the right places na! 😍 Though we need to work on her pooping jud, kay struggle 😅
Awee yes I get that, maka wala stress ang doggos jud!!! And they're so loving. Your fam's too cute to have lots of doggos kay maka happy jud sila🐶🥰♥️
