From my years of experience as a farmer, I have learned to understand the importance of understanding crop-specific soil needs for successful farming. Not every type of soil works for different crops; some might. Still, after a while, there will be signs that the soil is not meant for that specific crop, and at that point, it is already a little too late to make any corrections.

So this makes it very important to have an in-depth understanding of your crop's specific soil needs to maximize what you are going to get from that farm.

Soil scientists have spent so many decades trying to understand the way the soil works and how we could improve the soil to maximize what the soil can give us as farmers.

Each crop requires certain kinds of soil properties in the soil, and while the rice might actually grow at first without any sign, at a certain period around maturity, you will notice certain signs that depict a struggling plant in a strange soil.

Why can’t rice and groundnut thrive equally on the same soil?

While one needs moist or water-logged soil the other needs well-drained sandy-loamy soil

One does not require good soil aeration while the other needs aeration a lot to produce well.

Excess moisture causes rot and poor yields in groundnut, while it is of great benefit to rice.
