Paseo Padre e Hija // Father-Daughter Walk
Paseo Padre e Hija

Father-Daughter Walk
[English Version]
I have always mentioned that being a parent is a resounding change in life, priorities change completely and the person adapts to this new role, it is a learning process that, although it is not easy, in particular I enjoy it a lot. When you are a parent, time is not the same, tasks must be reorganised to be more efficient as the children also need their parents' time and attention.
Very recently the tasks in terms of work, the Hive event in Barquisimeto and household chores accumulated that was already causing some stress, taking into account that my daughter Camila is a cheerful and above all active child, she loves to play with her dad, whenever I can I play with her, However, like any child of only 3 years old, she is just beginning to learn about order and cleanliness in the home, so mum and dad must take care of the little "messes" that our daughter makes.
I remember that day in the afternoon we had a long list of chores and work to do, however, we decided that in that case the best thing to do was to go for a walk with Camila, that's right, for a walk. The strategy we used was to split up and I would go out alone with Camila and my wife would stay at home doing the chores and her work, while I kept the little one busy, the plan was to be effective with time, but at the same time, not to neglect our daughter and not to make her feel displaced, since at least for work the ideal is to stay focused on what you are doing, so taking her for a walk was the best option for my wife to finish her work faster.
I get along very well with my daughter, however, we had never gone out just the two of us to a place without other family or friends, before when she was younger I was afraid to go out with just her, however, now at her age and size she can walk with me peacefully while her mother rests or works at home.
Camila is a very energetic child, so the most attractive thing for her was to take her to a park where she could discharge her batteries, however, I must say that I am still a little scared of parks with slides, see-saws and metal swings, because when she runs or doesn't know how to get on them she can get hit, in those cases I am on the lookout. This time I decided to look for a place where she could ride safely without having to hold her or pick her up at every moment, a park that would also be fun for her.
The most viable option, at least for me on this first occasion that I go out alone with my daughter, is to take her to a McDonald's that is just a few minutes drive from our house, where I can sit quietly while Camila has fun in the park.
Francys writes me that she was going to make her dinner, so it wasn't necessary to eat at McDonald's, we usually try to get our daughter to eat food whenever we can, so I just bought some ice cream so she could enjoy her walk in the park even more (and me too).
Playing with other children
Little by little more children were arriving, some were just the right height to get on the slide, some were very big and that makes any parent uncomfortable, however, Camila despite her age is quite big and can hold her own against other bigger children who also want to play, but with a bit more intensity.
There were also several children of her age and height, I must say that Camila loves to play with other children, however, sometimes it is difficult for her to respect the space of others, when I saw that she came out of the slide with a stuffed animal telling me "look daddy", I immediately started to look for the child who Camila had taken her toy from her, Soon I was approached by a girl a little older than Camila telling me that she had taken her stuffed animal, I talked to both of them making it clear to Camila that she should respect other children and their things, but at the same time I asked for patience from the other girl because she was a little older and understood better the indications of an adult, both played for a long time in the park.
Dinner is ready
Francys wrote me to tell me that she had finished her work and was cooking dinner, that was the signal to go home with Camila, however, she was so happy in the park playing with other children (something she doesn't do very often) so I wanted to stay a few more minutes.
I remember that I was the only father in the place with only his daughter, there were only mothers in the park section and only one father (me), that didn't bother me at all, I was quietly enjoying being a father, at the same time I was getting some work done on my phone, as my wife had already done a lot of things.
The Return Negotiation
Camila is not one of those kids that you tell her let's go and without replying she gets in the car, with her you have to negotiate on many occasions, when I told her that mum is already waiting for us, she simply said "no" and went to the park again, I decided to repeat several times that we had to leave soon, that I was only giving her a few more minutes to enjoy the park.
I approached her and asked her if she liked the walk to the park and the ice cream, she nodded and I told her that, if she was good, we could come together another day. I loaded her up and left the place, I won't lie to you, Camila cried a little when we got in the car, but I promised her that we would come back and that she had behaved like a big girl.
When we got home we had dinner and she was tired after playing for a long time in the park, my wife bathed her, fed her dinner and then put her to bed to watch her cartoons and then fall asleep, now it was my turn to focus on working on my part.
Without a doubt it was an effective strategy, the time was enough to make progress on many pending tasks and at the same time we gave Camila a special moment.
