No recuerdo bien donde, pero entre tantas cosas que leo sobre fotografía, una vez leí algo así como: "La fotografía se vuelve una manera de pensar"... Y cuando leí aquello, recuerdo haber traído a mi mente mi época de universidad y un período en el que literalmente sufrí una peligrosa obsesión con el "Ajedrez" y entonces terminé mirando todo a mi alrededor como si fueran piezas de ajedrez... Las personas podían ser alfiles, caballos, torres y los vehículos, casa y arboles también se convertían en piezas a las que mentalmente colocaba de una u otra manera sobre mi permanente tablero imaginario... ¡una verdadera locura!... Tan grave fue, que llegué a ser segundo lugar en un torneo estatal, pero al final de todo dejé de jugar ajedrez de un momento a otro y sin explicación alguna.

I don't remember well where, but among so many things I read about photography I once read something like: "Photography becomes a way of thinking"... And when I read that, I remember bringing to my mind my university days and a period in which I literally suffered a dangerous obsession with "Chess" and then I ended up looking at everything around me as if they were chess pieces... People could be bishops, horses, rooks and vehicles, houses and trees also became pieces that I mentally placed in one way or another on my permanently imagined chessboard... a real madness!... So serious was it, that I came second in a state tournament, but at the end of it all I stopped playing chess from one moment to the next and without any explanation.

Bueno, con la fotografía me sucede algo parecido... Simplemente voy por la calle y voy "mirando fotos" aquí y allá, las voy construyendo, las voy recortando, puedo mirarlas ya en blanco y negro o en colores e inclusive decolorar áreas mentalmente... Pero esto ya me ha estado sucediendo por más de un par de décadas y no parece disminuir, así que creo que llegaré a anciano haciendo esto y no sucederá como con mi obsesión con el ajedrez.

Well, with photography something similar happens to me... I simply walk down the street and I "look at photos" here and there, I build them up, I cut them out, I can look at them in black and white or in colour and even mentally discolour areas... But this has been happening to me for more than a couple of decades now and it doesn't seem to diminish, so I think I'll grow old doing this and it won't happen like with my chess obsession.

Bien, ya hablando (ahora sí finalmente) respecto esta serie de fotos; se trata de fotografías en blanco y negro realizadas a partir de fotos completas de camiones. Y es que en mi pueblo sucede algo bastante curioso... Muchas personas son dueños de camiones o los manejan contratados por los dueños y en fin, ese es su trabajo y les provee el sustento... Pero lo extraño es que en muchas ocasiones "parecen no disponer de garaje" y entonces esos enormes vehículos suelen pernoctar en las calles frente a las casas y algunos inclusive están allí simplemente estacionados deteriorándose y pues lucen descompuestos.

Well, talking (now finally) about this series of photos; these are black and white photographs made from full truck photos. And in my town something rather curious happens... Many people are owners of trucks or they drive them hired by the owners and, well, that's their job and it provides them with a living... But the strange thing is that on many occasions "they don't seem to have a garage" and so these huge vehicles tend to spend the night in the streets in front of the houses and some are even just parked there, deteriorating and looking broken down.

Y bueno... ¡Eso los hace susceptibles de ser fotografiados!... Pues más allá del tema de la estética del pueblo y de como puedan afectarla esa cantidad de camiones aparcados aquí y allá... Hay que reconocer que proveen una linda fuente de motivos para hacer fotos!...

And well... That makes them susceptible to being photographed!.... Well, beyond the issue of the aesthetics of the town and how this number of trucks parked here and there can affect it... You have to admit that they provide a nice source of motives to take photos!...

Obviamente, esta serie de fotografías gira en torno a un rema muy específico como es el de "camiones", pero cuando se va por ahí pensando en fotografías casi todo el tiempo, es bastante fácil ir construyendo este tipo de series mentalmente, pues obviamente casi cualquier cosa puede convertirse en un concepto que nos permita mirarlo desde un punto de vista muy particular y que trascienda lo cotidiano... Creo que este tipo de trabajos plasma y expone un poco de la psiquis del autor (en este caso yo) pero también puede "extraer" mucho del fuero interno de quien los observa con suficiente detenimiento.

Obviously, this series of photographs revolves around a very specific row such as "trucks", but when you go around thinking about photographs almost all the time, it is quite easy to build this kind of series mentally, because obviously almost anything can become a concept that allows us to look at it from a very particular point of view that transcends the everyday... I think that this kind of work captures and exposes a bit of the author's psyche (in this case me) but it can also "extract" a lot from the inner self of whoever observes it carefully enough.
