Rainy seasons come with the coolness of the weather for me
It is still a wonder how the elderly people in our communities know the sunlight or the smell that heralds the fall of rain. I have oftentimes been told by some elderly people that the sun being so hot is a signal that rain is about to fall (perhaps someday I will be blessed with this gift).

If I were to choose between the rainy and dry seasons, which would it be?

IT'S DEFINITELY THE RAINY SEASON FOR ME

Now, let me recount my experience of both seasons when I was in Kebbi State, Northwestern Nigeria. I spent just a year there, but I dread going back there during the dry season.

I arrived in early October of 2018 and endured the dry season until sometime in May of the following year, when the first rainfall occurred. Here in Nigeria, the dry season usually commences from December to March, while the rainy season lasts from April until November; thus, I experienced the extreme weather of Northwestern Nigeria. People living in Kebbi can actually bathe more than five times and still feel hot and uncomfortable. At some point, my car thermostat was reading above 42 °C, which scared me to my marrow. In the initial part of my stay in Kebbi, we enjoyed an abundance of power supply, which was however short-lived because two months later, we suffered epileptic power supply in the state. By December, when I traveled to Ilorin, I was tempted to buy a used (tokunbo) air conditioner to ameliorate the heat that I suffered during my stay there (this was just three months of my stay in Kebbi). I remember taking a cold shower one hot afternoon. I ran outside for some breeze, and I was welcomed with hot air, which made me sweat like a thief caught in the act. In fact, I used to sleep on top of the car occasionally (thankfully, the compound was gated).

Now do you see why I dread the dry season? Just those few months I spent up north have influenced my choice for the rainy season, and permit me to state a few of the reasons.

Cool weather
Borrowing from the aforementioned lamentations, I love the cool weather that comes with the rainy season. The fact that the sun doesn't have to scorch my already melanin-rich skin is a plus for me.

Green veggies and cheaper foodstuffs
You will agree with me that some farmlands are just beautiful to behold. It seems the farmers know how to cultivate the crops to make them look appealing, and surely food crops are cheaper during the rainy season. Most farmers plant crops that take about three months to mature, especially to forestall flooding from the later rains, and thus, there's usually an abundance of such crops.

Maybe on a selfish note, but I kind of like the fact that some days are unofficially declared work-free due to heavy downpours that won't permit you to leave the house (😂).

It will really be a tight decision to make at any point because each of the season comes with their goodies
I can't forget the day rain beat the hell out of me and I can't also forget the day I literally slept naked because of hot weather 😂
Lolz
Both have their pros and cons
Exactly
Without hesitation, I'll always pick the rainy season for the dry season. The heat brings chaos and prevents me from doing anything important or that requires long hours of focus. The rainy season is cool, beautiful green vegetations and a nice breeze anytime it rains.
Very correct, thank you brother
Dryness in the north is on a whole different level, I haven't been there but have heard lots of testimonies from people who live there. Excessive heat messes with my physical and mental state so I prefer the rain but not too much though.
Yes o, it's terrible up north. Thank you brother
Thank you very much
When I was schooling in Zamfara state we used to joke and said * From Zamfara to hell fire is just 30 Naira* !LOL due to it having an unfriendly sun. I used to look forward to the my final day in school so that I could run back home.
I love the rainy season and I will choose it any day any time.
Wow, you tried o
Spent just a year, I was frustrated!
I tell you, it wasn't funny at all.
Thank God we survived
Hahaha, amen
Lol. I remember when I visited zamfara I thought my shoe was melting because of how hot the ground was, I had to ask someone to take a look at my shoe to be sure😂
Hahaha Zamfara weather is something else.
Asin ehnn
I use to hear some part of the north is extremely hot but I've never been there.
I think I would cope perfectly, I hate the cold 🥶 weather.
Okay o
If you insist, I have sha told you o 😂
😂😂
Omo. Dryness in the north is something else, I remember when I visited sokoto and zamfara state, I kept asking the people how the survive their, even with the AC on I was still sweating, the water running from the tap was hottttttt mostly in sokoto State. despite living in the north, dryness in some norther part did not come to this world to play😂
It's that bad, May we not be damned to hell
Amen o 🙌
