The Shinning (1980) | From a Viewpoint Who Dislikes Horror Films

During the holiday break, I had the wonderful time to watch some movies that I had wanted to watch for a long time. As I said before, I do not watch horror movies because they linger in my head like imagining stuff after watching, haha. 😆 But this time, my friends insisted on watching the film The Shining, and according to the survey, it is the number 2 scariest horror film. Like what??? Whatever, let's do this I said, as long as we watch during daytime, haha!
Mostly on this blog are my thoughts or what I was thinking during the peak scenes. It may contain spoilers, so if you have not seen the movie, I suggest skipping this blog for now. 😀

Okay. The movie started with a beautiful view of the mountains and the lake. I had the hint that the setting would be in the wilderness or isolation type sht. Yup, isolation. The main characters were Jack, Wendy, and Danny.

The exterior of the Overlook Hotel is cozy. A dream vacation getaway, I would say. But, man, the interior is kinda weird for me. Idk if it was just the color grade or maybe the furniture. It was the pink undertone that was killing me. 😆 The corridors were dimly lit, and felt someone was gonna jump out.
Danny riding his bike through corridors

These were the moments I was waiting for a jumpscare. 😆 I was bracing myself, haha! The background music made it even scarier. Nothing happened, to be honest, but my heart was racing crazy. But it was eerie and isolating.
The Twins

Yoooo 😫 Look how creepy they are! They were so similar. Looking directly at the camera gave an uncomfortable feeling. Clearly a warning to Danny about the history of the hotel.
Jack's issue

At the start of the movie, Jack seemed fine, but he slowly turned into a controlling individual. It became worse when the family stayed in the hotel. Was it the force of the hotel? It was a mix of being paranoid and hallucination. I noticed that his alcoholism triggered after the bartender scene. He succumbed to the madness and became a threat to Wendy and Danny.
The blood

It's just cranberry juice! 😆 Finally see the iconic and meme-able scene!
Room 237

All I was thinking was "It is a TRAP!" I, as a viewer, was curious too of what could be behind the door of room 237. The beautiful woman behind the curtain is a lethal danger and temptation.
The Photo at the End of the Movie

A photo in black and white was zoomed in, and I realized Jack was one of the elite people in it. It was written "1921". I was confused as to why he was in the photo... Was he a ghost that never crossed to the next life? Or was it a cycle of horror? I thought Jack was all along part of the hotel's supernatural events.
After Thoughts
Since this movie was reviewed as the number 2 horror movie, I was waiting for some satanistic or somewhat exorcist-type scenes. 😆 It was more on psychological stuff. I was curious, anticipating, and tensed. It was about the long shots of silence, the feeling of being alone, and the emptiness. It was a great movie, and probably one of the few horror movies that I watched that I liked.
My rating 9/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I will see you at the next one!

muy buena reseña, gracias por compartir!
very good review, thanks for sharing!
The truth is that for some reason this film ended up boring me. I found it lacking in dynamism, but I must admit that it has some really good scenes, and it was because of these that I decided to watch it in the first place
Half the movie left me bored because nothing was happening yet, but it got interesting when I saw the twins! 😀 Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
