La alegría de estar juntos, RETO: VACACIONES ESCOLARES EN CASA. (Español/Ingles)
Los juegos son una parte importante en el desarrollo de las infancias, a nivel motriz y cognitivo. Cuando a esto le sumamos que los juegos estén conectados al quehacer cultural, los resultados pueden ser maravillosos. En mi país, como en toda Latinoamérica, muchos de los juegos tienen su origen en la tradición de nuestros pueblos indígenas, estos eran una expresión autentica de como interactuaban, entre ellos y su entorno, de allí la importancia de conectar a los niños con estas raíces. Los juegos tecnológicos han llegado para quedarse, pero podemos generar un sano ritmo entre los juegos que los chicos disfrutan en las pantallas y los que pueden desarrollar al aire libre en interacción con otros pequeños.
En este post compartiré algunas de las actividades que, junto a mi equipo de trabajo, he realizado con los niños en diferentes espacios comunitarios de mi región. Todas forman parte de la tradición nacional y son una maravillosa propuesta para realizar en casa, o en los espacios abiertos de nuestro barrio o comunidad durante las vacaciones.
El origami, aunque este es un arte oriental, es una práctica que tiene muchos años realizándose en occidente, es divertida y terapéutica. Además en mi experiencia personal, con el doblado de papel también podemos desarrollar de manera muy sencilla y con material reciclado,juegos tradicionales tales como, El trompo, El sacapiojos y El papagayo. Los niños lo disfrutan inmensamente y les aporta innumerables beneficios en su desarrollo psicomotor. Al final tendrán un resultado creado por ellos, con el que podrán jugar.
Los cuentacuentos, contar historias forma parte de la tradición oral, fue una de los primeros recursos con los que se trasmitía el conocimiento popular a lo largo del tiempo. Resulta ser un juego maravilloso porque a los niños les encanta escuchar historias, así como también les encanta contarlas. Esto estimula su imaginación, les ayuda a mejorar la pronunciación de las palabras y su expresión oral, también con la ayuda de los grandes puede ir ampliando su vocabulario. No requiere de ningún material costoso, solo un espacio cómodo, ya sea abierto o cerrado, y toda la disposición imaginativa para crear grandes historias con ellos.
Rondas, otra de las formas en las que los niños disfrutan expresarse es a través de su cuerpo. Las rondas son un gran recurso para canalizar la expresión corporal, desarrollar la lateralidad, potenciar la motricidad gruesa y activar las neuronas espejo. Solo necesitas unas buenas cornetas para amplificar la música, busca las rondas más tradicionales de tu país, también puedes usar algunas más contemporáneas, que les ayudara a recordar las vocales, los números o las partes del cuerpo. Con mi equipo de trabajo lo hemos hecho con música en vivo, así que si dominas algún instrumento musical aprovéchalo para esta actividad.
Pintar y dibujar, esta es la primera expresión escrita que tienen los niños, desde que son muy pequeños disfrutan dibujar o pintar, y pueden hacerlo durante horas. Aunque a veces parezcan solo garabatos, es el gran inicio de sus habilidades manuales y creativas. Mi recomendación es no presionarles a que pinten dentro de las líneas, o de los colores que creemos que son los indicados. Es importante permitir que los niños construyan su propio orden y diseñen sus propios personajes. Que entiendan desde muy chicos que la creatividad no tiene límites. Solo necesitas hojas, ya sean blancas, rayadas, recicladas, y cualquier lápiz o pigmento con el que puedan plasmar sus ideas en el papel. También puede usarse cartón u otro material donde sea posible trazar o pintar. Si hay alguna pared en tu casa o en la comunidad de la que puedas disponer, una gran opción es un mural colectivo.
Me despido por ahora, espero de todo corazón que puedan realizar con sus niños estas divertidas actividades. En mi caso, aprovechando el período vacacional, ya estamos realizando actividades cada semana con los niños de mi comunidad. Desde cines comunitarios hasta cualquier actividad recreativa. The joy of being together, Challenge: Home School Vacation (Spanish/English)
Games are an important part in the development of children, both motor and cognitive. When we add to this the fact that games are connected to cultural activities, the results can be wonderful. In my country, as in all Latin America, many of the games have their origin in the tradition of our indigenous peoples, these were an authentic expression of how they interacted with each other and their environment, hence the importance of connecting children with these roots. Technological games are here to stay, but we can generate a healthy rhythm between the games that children enjoy on the screens and the ones they can develop outdoors in interaction with other children.
In this post I will share some of the activities that, together with my work team, I have done with children in different community spaces in my region. They are all part of the national tradition and are a wonderful proposal to do at home, or in the open spaces of our neighborhood or community during the vacations.
Origami, although this is an oriental art, is a practice that has been practiced for many years in the West, it is fun and therapeutic. In addition, in my personal experience, with paper folding we can also develop in a very simple way and with recycled material, traditional games such as the spinning top, the lice plucker and the parrot. Children enjoy it immensely and it brings them countless benefits in their psychomotor development. At the end they will have a result created by them, with which they can play.
Storytellers, storytelling is part of the oral tradition, was one of the first resources with which popular knowledge was transmitted over time. It turns out to be a wonderful game because children love to listen to stories, just as they love to tell them. This stimulates their imagination, helps them to improve their pronunciation of words and their oral expression, and with the help of adults they can expand their vocabulary. It does not require any expensive material, just a comfortable space, either open or closed, and all the imaginative disposition to create great stories with them.
Rounds, another way children enjoy expressing themselves is through their bodies. Rounds are a great resource for channeling body expression, developing laterality, enhancing gross motor skills and activating mirror neurons. You just need some good horns to amplify the music, look for the most traditional rounds of your country, you can also use some more contemporary ones, which will help them to remember vowels, numbers or body parts. With my work team we have done it with live music, so if you master any musical instrument take advantage of it for this activity.
Painting and drawing, this is the first written expression that children have, since they are very young they enjoy drawing or painting, and they can do it for hours. Although sometimes it may seem like just doodling, it is the great beginning of their manual and creative skills. My recommendation is not to pressure them to paint within the lines, or the colors we think are the right ones. It is important to allow children to build their own order and design their own characters. Let them understand from a very young age that creativity has no limits. You only need sheets of paper, whether white, lined, recycled, and any pencil or pigment with which they can express their ideas on paper. You can also use cardboard or other material where it is possible to trace or paint. If there are any walls in your home or community that you can spare, a great option is a collective mural.

In my case, taking advantage of the holiday period, we are already doing activities every week with the children in my community. From community movies to any recreational activity. Oh mine, these are wonderful collections of traditional games, I've heard and read alot about Origami and It sound so interesting, the story telling is one that's common to us here too, we all simply sit around an old person to let us different story that got us engross.
