La anécdota es la siguiente. Un usuario de Twitter y seguidor del escritor español Arturo Pérez-Reverte le consulta por la lectura de un libro para un lector principiante y don Arturo le responde que se lea "El pirata Garrapata". De inmediato me tomé muy en serio la sugerencia e intenté descargar el PDF del libro en cuestión, pero al parecer está protegido y cuando estaba a punto de desistir de dicha lectura, resulta que lo consigo en la biblioteca personal de mi hijo.

     ¡Vaya que me alegré! porque nuevamente se comprueba aquello bíblico de que, el que busca encuentra. Eso fue hace tres días y justamente anoche terminé de leer "El pirata Garrapata". Un libro de aventuras, de cómicas y disparatadas ocurrencias, dirigido a un público infantil y que, precisamente, quise leer porque la literatura para chicos es una de mis favoritas, incluso tengo un par de novelas publicadas en Amazon dirigidas a jóvenes y niños.

     De este autor, Juan Muñoz Martín, ya he leído "Fray Perico y su borrico", y recuerdo que es muy entretenido, que desde el principio te engancha por el humor y lo bien narrado que está, pero lo mejor fue que para entonces varios de mis alumnos lo leyeron y fue motivo de conversación en el círculo de lectura que teníamos. Por esas dos razones me animé a leer "El Pirata Garrapata", porque lo recomendó el señor Pérez-Reverte y por las excelentes referencias que tengo de Juan Muñoz Martín.

     Particularmente soy un lector de todos los géneros literarios: narrativa, poesía, ensayo y en menor grado, teatro. Para la poesía soy muy selectivo; tengo preferencia por el ensayo histórico y de arte; en teatro, las obras clásicas y las de mi maestro, Tomás Jurado Zabala; pero en narrativa soy más amplio, leo cuentos y novelas de todos los tipos: ciencia ficción, terror, policiaca, fantasía, histórica y lo que me enganche.

     En lo referente a literatura infantil, leo y con frecuencia releo a los clásicos, pero no tengo miramientos en cuanto al tipo de lectura, basta con que sea infantil para meterme en el libro en busca de una nueva aventura; tal como me pasó con "El pirata Garrapata", cuyo protagonista, un hombre feroz y panzón, con una pata de palo y un garfio de acero en lugar de manos me hizo navegar en el Salmonete por los mares de Inglaterra, junto al Carafoca, el Chino, Chaparrete y otros extravagantes piratas que haicieron del viaje una aventura peligrosa, ocurrente, divertida y llena de inesperadas sorpresas.

     Me dio gusto ir y volver, aunque las aventuras del pirata Garrapata no terminan en este libro, me siento satisfecho con esta nueva experiencia de vida porque cada libro que lees es eso, una vida que le agregas a la tuya, una nueva anécdota, un nuevo viaje, nuevos amigos; y he allí la riqueza del lector, puede tener tantas vidas como libros leídos y eso, mis estimados lectores, es una riqueza que nadie puede robarnos.

The pirate Garrapata

The anecdote is as follows. A Twitter user and follower of Spanish writer Arturo Pérez-Reverte asks him to suggest some adventure book for a beginning reader and Arturo replies that he should read The pirate Garrapata. I immediately took the suggestion to heart and tried to download the PDF of the book in question, but apparently it is protected and when I was about to give up reading it, I found it by chance in my son's personal library.

          I was overjoyed! because once again the biblical saying that he who seeks finds is proven. That was three days ago and last night I finished reading "The pirate Garrapata". A book of adventures, comical and nonsensical witticisms, aimed at a children's audience and that, precisely, I was looking forward to reading because children's literature is one of my favorites, I even have a couple of novels published on Amazon aimed at young people and children.

     From this author, Juan Muñoz Martín, I already read "Fray Perico y su borrico", and I remember that it is a very entertaining story, that from the beginning hooks you because of the humor and how well narrated it is, but the best thing was that at that time several of my students read it and it was a reason for conversation in the reading circle we had. For these two reasons I decided to read "The Pirate Garrapata", because Mr. Pérez-Reverte recommended it to me and because of the excellent references I have of Juan Muñoz Martín.

     I am particularly a reader of all literary genres: narrative, poetry, essays and to a lesser degree, theater. For poetry I am very selective; I have a preference for historical and art essays; in theater, the classics and those of my teacher, Tomás Jurado Zabala; but in narrative I am a broader reader, I read short stories and novels of all types: science fiction, horror, detective, fantasy, historical and whatever I am hooked on.

     As far as children's literature is concerned, I read and often reread the classics, but I have no qualms about the type of reading, it is enough that it is for children to get me into the book in search of a new adventure; This is what happened to me with The pirate Garrapata, whose protagonist, a fierce and paunchy man with a wooden leg and a steel hook instead of hands, made me sail on the Salmonete through the seas of England, together with Carafoca, Chino, Chaparrete and other extravagant pirates who made the voyage a dangerous, witty, amusing adventure full of unexpected surprises.

     I was glad to go and come back, although the adventures of the pirate Garrapata do not end in this book, I feel satisfied with this new life experience because each book you read is that, a life that you add to yours, a new anecdote, a new trip, new friends; and that is the wealth of the reader, he can have as many lives as books read and that, my dear readers, is a wealth that no one can steal from us.
