Yo, muy buenas a todos los lectores de Hive, He aquí la última entrega del Anime Blogging Challenge, la décima parte, donde toca hablar de mi Anime favorito.

Ya les hable que me gusta la ciencia ficción, el humor absurdo, lo experimental, y Shinichiro Watanabe como director; pues miren nada más, hay un Anime que junta todo eso: Space Dandy. Que mejor que la intro para explicar de qué va: “Space Dandy es un dandy en el espacio. Peina la galaxia como su pompadour a la caza de alienígenas. Busca planeta tras planeta, descubriendo nuevas y extrañas criaturas, tanto amistosas como no. Estas son las espectaculares aventuras de Space Dandy y su valiente tripulación espacial... en el espacio.”

I already told you that I like science fiction, absurd humor, experimental, and Shinichiro Watanabe as a director; well, just look, there is an Anime that combines all that: Space Dandy. What better than the intro to explain what it's about: "Space Dandy is a dandy in space. He combs the galaxy as his pompadour on the hunt for aliens. He searches planet after planet, discovering new and strange creatures, both friendly and unfriendly. These are the spectacular adventures of Space Dandy and his brave space crew...in space."

Si bien Shinichiro Watanabe es quien dirige los episodios más relevantes, la magia de este Anime está en que más de la mitad de estos tienen diferente director, cada uno aportando su idea de aventura espacial. Cuando digo que todo puede pasar es porque ¡todo puede pasar!: un Armagedón zombi, ponerse existencialista, hacer un musical, conocer a Dios, hasta la destrucción del universo para que al siguiente capítulo todo regrese a la normalidad. Es el ejemplo perfecto de “Anime experimental” que explora de todo lo que es capaz de transmitir la animación: Darnos acción de proporciones mundiales, hacernos reír con los giros de trama más tomados de los cabellos, hacer amigos en el camino que traerán momentos emotivos, y hasta explorar temas filosóficos como la muerte. Incluso cuando el guion mete la pata en cosas que en un Anime convencional seria reprochable, aquí presenta esos errores de una manera tan obvia que se nota que fueron hechos apropósito.

Although Shinichiro Watanabe is the one who directs the most relevant episodes, the magic of this Anime is that more than half of them have different directors, each one contributing with his own idea of space adventure. When I say that anything can happen, it's because anything can happen: a zombie Armageddon, getting existentialist, making a musical, meeting God, even the destruction of the universe so that in the next episode everything returns to normal. It is the perfect example of "Experimental Anime" that explores everything animation is capable of: giving us action of global proportions, making us laugh with the most outrageous plot twists, making friends along the way that will bring emotional moments, and even exploring philosophical themes like death. Even when the script screws up things that in a conventional Anime would be reprehensible, here it presents those mistakes in such an obvious way that you can tell they were done on purpose.

Y cuando quiere hacer un capitulo bien escrito esta muuuy bien escrito, siendo de estos mis favoritos al demostrar que se puede contar una buena historia auto-conclusiva pero sin perder su esencia absurda. Space Dandy no será el mejor anime que allá visto, pero lo que si una carta de amor a la animación que cuenta con la ventaja de ser mi principal fuente de inspiración para crear mis propios proyectos experimentales que espero algún día puedan ser un comic, o porque no, una animación. Es por esto que estoy en gratitud con Space Dandy y por ello es mi Anime favorito de todos los tiempos.

A sido un largo camino, gracias a @kuronokenshi por crear el Anime Blogging Challenge y por motivarme a terminar algunos Animes que había dejado a medias pero que sabía que podría hablar de ellos (y los que no pues… conseguí material de reseñas JaJa!) hasta la próxima, ciao.

And when it wants to make a well-written chapter, it is very well written, being one of my favorites because it shows that you can tell a good self-conclusive story without losing its absurd essence. Space Dandy may not be the best anime I've ever seen, but it is a love letter to animation that has the advantage of being my main source of inspiration to create my own experimental projects that I hope someday can be a comic, or why not, an animation. This is why I am in gratitude with Space Dandy and why it is my favorite Anime of all times.

It's been a long road, thanks to @kuronokenshi for creating the Anime Blogging Challenge and for motivating me to finish some Anime I had left half finished but I knew I could talk about them (and the ones I didn't... I got some review material HaHa!) until next time.
