"Reuse/repurpose/recycle" one hoarders loss is my gain.

I passed by this house nearly every time I went anywhere but the Grocery store or the Hardware, minus the U-Haul truck, the yard was always image.pngstacked up with CRAP, but since I always have my eyes open for things I need or could use (and would prefer getting for free) I always wanted to stop, never did until yesterday.
You see the U-Haul was new, and I'd been seeing it for a couple of days.
Turns out this guy wasn't paying/had not paid rent in a WHILE, and so he was evicted.
I assume the U-haul was what he was taking, behind it are TWO roll-away dumpsters.
What I spotted in particular from the street were the legs of an old sewing machine sticking outta the dumpster you can see

image.png
The guy in the red had is the evicted person I think, the other is the owner who sent him packing, literally

So I stopped, the owner guy said those dumpsters were being hauled away today, anything I wanted I should get before then.

image.png

I sure would have liked to get that trailer, but I had no way to tow it

SO

Even though I was quite tired and wound up from the stress of driving in and out of Atlanta in the afternoon, I grabbed a couple of things, then came back later with a ladder for the thing in the dumpster.
I got quite a haul, and called my neighbor who came with his van and got a lawn mower and helped me get the bike
So here we go

image.png
The two chrome 4 way tire tools were from the first stop, the floor jack, chain hook and speaker stand I got second trip

image.png
I couldn't find the spindles for the second dumbbell, I will use the weights on the bottom of mic stands with long boom arms

image.png

Who knows how old that crow bar is, the adjustable wrench will come in handy, and so will another chain hook

image.png

You can never have too much plastic shelving, I just wish I could have found the legs, but I have things that will work

image.png
↑This is some sort of stage lighting, it didn't work when I got it home, but there are several things that would be an easy fix, fuse, light bulb etc

image.png

The sax is dented and missing the embouchure, but it will look great hanging on the wall of my Studio.
The side grinder works, but sparks very badly, so I know it will need new brushes

image.png
This sewing machine base was what I saw sticking up from the dumpster.
Most of the time all you find is the metal stand, I had NO IDEA the wooden parts were there

(I really lament that the drawers weren't there, but they were very likely loose down inside that dumpster, and I'll be damned if I'm THAT much of a dumpster diver 🤣)

and I was VERY surprised to find the actual sewing machine on the ground beside the big oak in the front yard

image.png

and the "pièce de résistance?"... my new ride

image.png
↑It's a Schwinn and everything works, tires need air, there is no front brake, but still.

So there you have it.

Hey Jerry,
That's an amazing haul! It's surprising he threw away some of this stuff, but he probably didn't have much of a choice :/
I see so much potential with that bike. It's the perfect type for a conversion kit for gas or electric motorization, but would also diminish any collectors value it may have.

That sewing machine and table is like finding a brick of gold!

That's for sharing and for the shout out, I love stuff like this :D

My neighbor has already spoken about putting some motor on it, but he also wants me to see if I can find what it is worth, I guess as a collectors item.
I wanted it to ride. For exercise don'cha know.
I agree about the sewing machine, as I said in the post I am heartbroken the drawers are gone.
I can attest that it isn't rusted shut, I mean everything still turns (on both the S Machine and the bike)
Thanks for commenting Jacob

Wow you must have a big car to got all these things back to your place! Also the house location looks wonderful... Living between trees must be wonderful. Anyway! The sewing machine with the stand is an amazing find, wow!

My car is a Kia Soul Hatchback. I can get a lot in there when I try.
I lived in Arizona for a few years, other than that I've never lived anywhere there weren't trees all around.
You mean you don't have trees in Germany? 😜

I meaaaan we got a lot of trees and parks but it's not really common to live in a house where I'm at, mostly apartments. ^^

OIC, I just posted photos of my car, so you could see how much room (remember I carried a 6 ft step ladder as well)
My house is an 80 yr old farm house

It's quite a bit different now, this image was not long after I bought the place
More than half my 1.6 acres is pure out woods (in the back)

Must be a lot of work to maintain but it looks lovely. So much space! I'm a little bit jealous :D Can't even find a two-room apartment here

There were so many nice things that was thrown away which I believe will still be useful as well.

I make a point of trying to spot good stuff that people throw away, in fact about half the stuff in my house is old used stuff, much gotten for free

In that mess of things, I saw a new kitchen stove hood (the exhaust device over a stove to catch steam and grease etc) still in the box sitting on the ground, but the condition of the box it had been outdoors for some time.
People are crazy, throwing out good, useful stuff like that

I guess those who threw those items away do not know what it means to reuse and recycle but you knew about it and had to take the opportunity to gather those items. They should be useful I guess.

I don't know how folks keep missing this item.
The man was NOT PAYING HIS RENT, and was EVICTED.
I don't know about other countries, but here, you are served with an eviction notice, you have 30 days to pay up or get what you want out, then the rest is set by the street (typically) and then hauled to the dump.
I've been in that spot before, he had no choice. We thing that what he wanted the most and had time and means to get, were in that red and white U-Haul truck.

Thanks for reading and commenting @princessbusayo

Did he really want to throw all of these out? I don't know where I read something of this nature today. Someone who keeps buying things they don't use frequently and having to dump the off as garbage because they can't someone to buy most of them.

Well, this one was good for you cos you got valuable things that you can fix up and use.

Well done with recycling these..

Truth be told, 99+% of what was there was stuff he picked up like I did, having been thrown out by someone else.
He certainly didn't BUY the broken floor jack, I doubt he paid for the very old sewing machine
Everything stunk, smelled of rotten stuff having been stacked up around it all for too long.

Thanks for commenting @iskafan

Oh. So he is a recycler at heart too. Nice. Really Nice. It's cool to know people find ways to preserve nature through recycling. You guys are so cool.

He might have thought he will be able to come up with the money before then. But he couldn't. Now, I feel sad for him. 😔

There is no way I'll feel sorry for him.... Lol

I tried not to feel sorry for him in my first comment but your response made me feel bad....

Now that I know he doesn't deserve it.... I take it all back 😂😂

Now you're talking.
On the other hand, his living and operating conditions are (in my opinion) due to a mental disorder, so for that I feel sorry for him.
Good morning @iskafan
I'm leaving in just a few moments to go get yet aNOTHER MRI scan of my brain.
I hate driving into Atlanta this time of day, and it has been raining, making it worse for me.

You sure hit the jackpot! As a fellow musician, I am sad to see a saxophone in a dumpster, but you have a good plan for it, at least.
