October 14, 2021--Prelude on Lobt Gott den Herren, Ihr by Laurie Moeller

An oddity for me today--a piece of music for the organ that has a Latin beat. Laurie Moeller's prelude on Lobt Gott den Herren, Ihr begins with a Majestic statement of the first two phrases of the Chorale tune before suddenly picking up the tempo with a continuous eight note pattern on the Swell manual and a syncopated rhythm in the pedals. The chorale tune is presented again, but this time in time with the syncopated pedal rhythms. It is really quite jazzy and dancelike. A middle section slows the chorale tune down once again before picking up the rhythm over a pedal point which leads to a fermata and a pause. The jazzy rhythm returns and leads into the end of the piece. Enjoy!
