HOME POULTRY: EXPECTING THE EGGS SOON AND HERE THEY COME

Hello reader, I m jaydr, a Medical Doctor who has recently began to do poultry. I have made it a culture of dropping some updates about my journey and hope someone else gets some idea from them,
As I wrote some time ago, I had begun a small poultry of 20 birds all layers and hoping to begin the business of egg production for consumption and sale.
It's been a sweet adventure watching the birds grow over time, no one would have told me how to experience some of these things if I had done it myself.
But its time to begin to expect the eggs, normally they are to start dropping by the age of 18 to 22 weeks and since I began the poultry, I had grown them to about 21 weeks, although by my estimation, their feeding was not as optimal because for some days, I only fed them once a day because of the nature of my job, but I try to compensate with more quantity when I return the next day.

I have also learnt that they ll need more light hours to eat and process eggs.
Have you ever experience the egg laying process, I have and its usually a very painful process to the birds, but they have to let it out and help me make some money.
Layers poultry is a go business for anyone who wants to venture into it, for some reasons which I ll share in another post.
As I approach the first layings, I am excited about what can come from these birds, I have put in some effort, feeding, cleaning, vaccinating and treating, that's a lot of work I must say, so when the eggs come, I hope it is as well deserved.
This is usually the joy every farmer must have when it's time for harvest and by all means, I m gonna have the same hehe.

The eggs are produced by physiology where by feeding makes them grow to maturity and the organs for egg production also grows, the feed is expected to contain sufficient protein, and minerals, grower feeds and this is given until a good percentage of the birds have dropped eggs. Then it is changed to a more suitable one for egg making. So far I have collected 6 eggs from one pen in 3 days and I hope other 7 pens also pick up.
It is not expected to have 100% drops a day, but with good feeding at least 80% will drop daily.
I'll keep you all posted and let you know when this set of layers begins to drop. Thanks for reading.
