(ESP-ENG) The Shadow's Edge | The return of Jackie Chan - Movie Review!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.

We have a bad habit of thinking that things made in China are of poor quality because labor is cheap and they end up being copies of Western products; nothing could be further from the truth. Those days are long gone, to the point that Chinese technology may even be more advanced than that of any country on this side of the world. Just watch a video of any city and its daily life to see for yourself. Why am I saying all this? Because this film is 100% Chinese (and from Hong Kong), and it's truly an action gem. If we add to that the presence of the great Jackie Chan, who at over 70 years old continues to deliver amazing scenes, well, you can imagine the result.
This story takes place in Macau, considered by many to be the Las Vegas of Asia. A gang of thieves uses every imaginable skill, both technological and physical, to achieve their goals, to the point that they are virtually impossible to catch. Behind their scenes, a hacker facilitates their every move. Tired of failing to solve the case despite having access to artificial intelligence, "The Heavenly Eye," the police decide to try old-school methods and call in a former agent specializing in tracking and undercover operations: Huang Dezhong (Jackie Chan). With him on the force, the approach changes, and they set out to hunt these criminals the old-fashioned way: by keeping a close watch.

But it won't all be easy, because at the head of this gang is also a former intelligence officer who knows how to operate and get things done; he always seems to be two steps ahead of everyone. Basically, this cop's return is to train a team so they learn the ropes and don't rely so heavily on modern methods. The film is almost two and a half hours long, but that's because the story places significant emphasis on the backstories of some of the characters. For example, there's a history between this cop and a young female agent, one that gives the plot more depth and meaning, lends more weight to their actions, and makes their interactions less superficial.
But there's also a strong sense of unity within the gang; all the members are connected, and this kind of brotherhood is very evident in their work. Ultimately, there's a strong family connection on both sides that makes everyone more grounded in what they have to do. This generates more intensity, and therefore the action has more purpose. The second thing is precisely the action. This is a full-fledged thriller where the big scenes start from the very first minute; there's no chance to blink. The truth is, the scenes are incredibly well done; almost all of them are hand-to-hand combat, and they're impressive. Having Jackie Chan and his skill and style makes everything much better. If you know he has a very particular way of moving and fighting, well, here we see it, only a bit more intense since comedy isn't the strong point here.

The film is everything you can imagine: over-the-top scenes, seemingly impossible feats that they pull off anyway, frenetic fights, technology that might look fake but I'm sure exists, blood, explosions, chases; it has it ALL. The plot navigates between internal family conflicts and reconciliations, and how that can affect the work of both sides. It's a very complete film, and I recommend it to everyone. For me, it's a 9/10. As an action film, it's one of the best you can see. This is simply perfect for switching off. I've included the trailer below.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos vemos en la próxima!
