(ESP-ENG) Realmente era necesaria The Matrix: Resurrections? // Was The Matrix: Resurrections really necessary?
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
I have always been one of those who have thought that when something works, don't change it or don't touch it, why do it? and that can be applied in any area of life and in this case one of them is the seventh art that we love so much. I had pending to see this fourth installment of the mythical trilogy that caused so much euphoria back in the late 90's and early 2000's and that to this day still has great fans; so the one I saw...
The Wachowski sisters at the time created a world that for the time was something new and difficult to understand, although it is true that the eternal struggle between humans and machines has always existed in cinema, the way they presented it to us was something totally unbelievable. Now, twenty years later, I don't know if returning to the world of the matrix was exactly a good idea. Anyway, let's talk a little bit about it.
In this installment we are set a few years after that war in which Neo and Trinity were protagonists only this time both apparently lead a fairly normal and average life. We see a Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves) being a man with real problems, in a real job and interacting with real people and a now Tiffany (Carrie-Anne Moss) doing exactly the same, a normal woman with a happy family.
But normality is relative and Thomas begins to realize that with the famous phrase: "choice is an illusion" in a world where he spends his time taking blue pills. It is precisely at that moment when he begins to question whether he wants to continue being part of something that is not real, even if it seems so, or whether he wants to find his true self. And all this will be thanks to the visit of an old acquaintance.
Where do we start? - let's see, after you finish the movie it is inevitable that the question I formulate in the title does not come to your mind, was all this necessary? - And the answer my friends is a resounding NO, unfortunately. And I say unfortunately because I had a lot of faith in this fourth installment and my expectations were really high but once you see all this there is no way, if you are a fan of the franchise, that you will like it or have been convinced.
The issue here is not because of the story because I think it wasn't something crazy to do, but because of the way the whole movie was handled. There are moments where it becomes extremely slow and introspective, which clearly what is sought is to give that characteristic philosophical touch, but in my opinion they took it to a much denser and thicker level to the point that it is somewhat complicated to digest.
Speaking of some of the things that are central to all the Matrix sagas are the great action scenes between the two worlds and that is something that here we are a little lacking. Why? - Well, for two reasons: because there aren't as many as we would like and because the ones there are, in my opinion, are too short, too simple. And I find it impressive that we are saying this about a Matrix movie but it is the reality, even in that factor there is a slight setback.
What must be said is that the performances were decent, you have to think that this Neo is very different from the trilogy so that explosiveness that characterized him here we will not see it, rather we will see a gentler man, with more common problems, generally quieter. Keaunu Reeves is a great actor and although it is inevitable not to compare him with John Wick sometimes, I think he did a great job within the established.
Blessed nostalgia but seeing Trinity again with Carrie-Anne Moss was wonderful. Nothing to say about her performance because it was very under the table, I think it was very average and lacked just a little more weight in the story, which it does have, but I think it lacked more. Now, what was the DECEPTION? - Morpheus' (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) joke. I honestly don't know what the creatives, writers and producers were thinking about but what a terrible character they "invented" with him.
The apparent explanation for this is rooted in a video game, but I think it still does not justify such a nefarious way of carrying the character. Morpheus is a pillar of the story and in this film what we see in a parody of that character, because to call him otherwise makes no sense. I haven't read the specialized reviews but I would dare to say that part of the "failure" of this movie has to do with him. Believe me I would have liked everything to have been different but the Wachowskis turned into ashes a story and a world that was perfect as it was 20 years ago.
In conclusion, a weak movie that did not meet my expectations with an excess of philosophical jargon, which within the context is valid, only with a few less doses it would have been more enjoyable. I still don't see a logical reason for this new movie beyond the monetary one because it didn't do the franchise any favors, Warner unfortunately has the particularity of doing things that are not necessary, that's their trademark.
Rating? - 6/10 and I don't know if I'm being generous. I liked seeing Trinity again, Keaunu is a crack at everything he does but that's as far as it goes. It's a film to watch if and only if you have nothing to do, to pass some time when boredom strikes. It has a length of almost 2 hours and a half and you can watch it on HBO Max. I leave you to the trailer as always. WARNING, all this is a very personal opinion, please go and see it, I have friends and acquaintances that liked it. And as they say, quality is very subjective....
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos leemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡Hugs to all, see you next time!
