(ESP-ENG) Realidad blaugrana. [Opinión]
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
The intention of this publication has changed radically in the last 24 hours due to a news that many already saw coming; it is none other than the continuity of Xavi at the helm of the culé bench. Yes, the same one who in January said that no matter what he would leave the club at the end of the season, even if his team won the Champions League. And yes, the same club whose president once said that "losing would have consequences". Today I speak from the stand of a fan who sees things from the outside and is surprised by the management of a club that is far from its best version.
The current blaugrana season has been a disaster: Supercopa de España, Copa del Rey, Champions League, the two classics and La Liga, all with negative results and yet Xavi's project is still betting. But there are things to highlight and one of them is the resurgence of a group of young players who certainly have a bright future, we are talking about Cubarsí, Lamine Yamal, Fermín and the same Pedri and Gavi. They already have it but if they are managed correctly they can reach a higher potential and give many joys to can Barca. But is Xavi the right one for that? - Looking at the latest, some will say no, others will say yes because of a simple continuity issue; I think in the end no one has the exact answer.
I would dare to say that the decision for Xavi to continue at the club is because they were not able to find an ideal replacement in these months that have elapsed so they thought: "it is better to know bad than to know good". Being a Barcelona coach is not easy and even less so with the economic and sporting situation they are going through. Xavi is a man of the club who I am sure hurts and feels rooted by the colors, hence it would be easier for him to reconsider his decision. But why did he say everything we already know in that press conference? - Most likely to take pressure off the team and because he genuinely did not see himself capable of righting the ship.
The thing is that three months later I feel that there are more reasons for him to leave than to stay, no matter how many flashes of play have been seen in Barcelona's games. The situation was complicated in January but at that time he had the hope of winning titles, today he lost those titles, hence my surprise at the news. And the most painful thing is the way they were lost. In the Champions League being beaten by PSG and in the last classic by a last minute goal by Jude Bellingham. But what is the common denominator in all this? - Is there reason to complain? - Debatable.
With Araujo's red card in the Champions League, there is no doubt, last man, he has to go. So let's quickly move on to Sunday, the day of the clásico. At first and before hundreds of videos from different angles came to light I said and thought that it had not entered but seeing what I saw it clearly entered. Evidently this is a mistake but not so much of the referees because the tools they have with the shots they have were not enough to give the goal because it was simply not clear. They need a chip on the ball, something that does not exist in La Liga. Or that the cameras are simply better positioned. So Barca lost because of this? - Obviously it is something that influences the result but in general terms I don't think they lost because of it.
All this is a snowball that is getting bigger and bigger and, for this server, I perceive that it is becoming increasingly difficult for Xavi to control. There is something that catches my attention and that is that he rarely criticizes himself, he always blames external factors: referees, the sun, the grass and so on. I feel that there are situations that overcome him, he receives many cards in matches, he has been sent off three times, including that match against PSG; when he needs the most serenity and a cool head is when he has the least. Looking ahead, there are undoubtedly hundreds of things to improve. Personally, and as this is a publication of opinion, I will give mine.
I understand the issue of continuity but I would not have renewed him because there are many more reasons not to have done so. Xavi has three years at the helm of the club, I think there should have been some consolidation but this season that was not seen. It is true that injuries have been a plague for the club, many top players have been on sick leave but I don't think that is an excuse of much weight. I think that: with more effective signings, better physical preparation, as clearly something is going on in that department and a different way of dealing with defeats and setbacks, it is possible that this club will look a little better for the following season.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos leemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡Hugs to all, see you next time!
Saludos, hermano.
