A couple of days ago some friends recommended me several movies to catch me up a little and it turns out that among their recommendations was the reason for this publication. I had heard about it, I was even about to see it at the cinema but it was only two days ago that I decided to take a look at it; and at that time I was hearing both bad and good things about this story.

The first thing is that this is a suspense and horror story directed by the very well known M. Night Shyamalan (known for directing also the movie "Split" or "Defragmented"). I've already said it here but I declare myself a big fan of these two genres in particular because it's VERY difficult to make something that really stands out among everything else and this movie even though it lacks a little bit at least makes the attempt.

The story begins with a vacation trip of a seemingly normal family that is looking for a little escape from the routine and all the problems they have to deal with on a daily basis. The thing is that the place where they arrive is not as good and perfect as it seemed at first and to find out unfortunately there is a price to pay.

Several families, all with different problems that will be discovered in the film, are chosen for a trip to a paradisiacal beach. With the passage of time, a very determining factor, they will begin to realize that that place hides a terrible secret which will make them live the worst nightmares they can imagine.

Now, can we categorize this movie as a thriller? - I would say yes. And I say yes because it fulfills its purpose which is to maintain a permanent tension in the viewer, is to be watching it and know that there is something bad in the environment, as a disturbance, and that is a matter of vibes I think and that my friends is something that we can appreciate from the beginning of the film until almost its denouement.

Suspense is about being for several moments in a state of confusion or bewilderment without being able to do anything or know what to say, in this story there are several passages or scenes that really leave you with that feeling. What is debatable is that they certainly could have been much better achieved and therefore the impact would have been much greater, they had an impact? yes, but they could have been more impressionable.

Terror also makes its presence felt, since it is the fear generated by a situation, place or person, and in this film we have all three on the menu. Situations that are given by the place where things happen that at first are difficult to understand and in the end end up affecting the people who make up the group. That brings us to the characters and I would highlight Charles (Rufus Sewell) who has a condition that I won't tell you about to avoid spoilers but is certainly one of the most disturbing of all.

To conclude, this story details in a very important way some of the most common problems that exist in a family and that not dealing with them or talking about them in time can be very detrimental to all its members. It touches on topics such as mental health, vanity, infidelity, lies; and although it may not seem like it, these are all very common things in society, unfortunately.

Anyway, it's a movie to pass the time and it fulfills what you expect to see. The way it ends is perhaps what generates more noise to me because I feel that they could have done a little more, I think they could have taken better advantage of both the end and the concept or idea in general. But in the end, my friends, this is just an opinion because we are far from being a film director.

Do I recommend it? - Yes. It's not a bad movie at all but I think it's not up to Shyamalan's standards. To give it a 7/10 rating. It lasts about an hour and fifty minutes that really pass quickly because you get immersed in the plot. As always I leave the trailer so you can see more or less what it's about for those who do not know it.
