(ESP-ENG) Mika - Un artista realmente único.
Hola amigos, buenas vibras para todos.
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Back in 2006 this artist made his debut as a singer with a song called "Grace Kelly" even being nominated for a Grammy. It is very likely that many do not know him since I consider that he is one of those artists who are a little underrated and also that he was never as mainstream as others who had or have similar characteristics to him. And as you know, if you don't echo and go viral, it's really complicated for you to emerge. But beware, we are not talking about a guy who is a total unknown but it is true that he could or may, because he has not retired yet, get to make his name grow more. On Spotify he has more than 7 million monthly listeners which is no small thing. I bring him up today because this weekend I listened to a song of his that reminded me of 2006-2007 when he released "Life in Cartoon Motion" which was his most popular album. So without further ado, let's listen to some of Mika's emblematic songs so you can get to know him too.
- Grace Kelly
This is the song I told you about, her first hit under the name of that great Hollywood actress who would later become Princess of Monaco. Mika has several peculiarities. The first is his undeniable vocal resemblance to Freddie Mercury to the point that you can close your eyes and think you are listening to him. And the second is his ability to reach high tones, the highs he can do are crazy and coincidentally very similar to Mercury as well. This pop song tells us a little bit about a person who doesn't quite know who he is so he is in the process of discovering it. In an interview Mika commented that this song was a satire to those singers who used these identity crises to become more popular and to be more popular with the fans. This as well as many of the songs that belong to this album are incredibly catchy, he had an ability to develop a unique sound that made his songs really good for the ears of all those who listen to his songs. And if we add to that that Mika sings really well for the combination is a total success. This track goes into the purest pop with maybe a little bit of glam rock, indie and even dance; he is a very versatile guy.
- Relax, Take It Easy
As the title of the song says, this one talks about taking things slowly. The context of the song is that this applies in all possible scenarios, but here it refers to the fact that when things don't work out, everyone should simply take another path, which there are plenty of, and move on. Of all this album this is undoubtedly the one I like the most, it has a vibe of past decades both for its video, aesthetics and above all its sound where we can hear even synthesizers. Here he sings always on top, those high notes that he barely touched in the first song made an appearance in this song. I remember that at that time, when MTV still had a certain influence on music videos, every time he was on TV it was a top because that's how I got to know this artist. And of course, using those programs like Ares, Limewire, etc, I downloaded this entire album that to this day is still a real gem. Personally I invite all those who have not listened to Mika to do it starting with this album, it is the most varied and in which you can listen to his greatest hits.
- Happy Ending
Vocally the best song of these three and perhaps of the whole album. In this one the truly enriching thing are all the choruses that we hear that give it a much more classic touch and even gospel could be. It is a song that talks about falling out of love and all that a breakup can mean, how we can be left physically and mentally: "This is the way you left me; without hope, without love, without glory, without a happy ending". This song is another sample of the capabilities of this singer, the way in which his voice complements the voices of the choir is one of the top things of the song. Besides the style helps a lot, I would say a pop ballad but a little more upbeat than usual. If you listen towards the end of the song you will realize what I'm talking about, the chorus is abysmal, singing three phrases at the same time and sounding perfect. It's a song with a cool vibe even though the lyrics are a bit sad, this is another of Mika's characteristics, his ability to make something dark sound like a melodic gem. And well, the video, which seen today may seem quite simple but I rescue the aesthetics, always very consistent with what he wants or wanted to express.
Anyway, Mika is a great artist that I hope you give him a chance in case you don't know him, he has a very particular style full of quality. As a bonus I leave you another track of his that is quite heavy in terms of lyrics although the video shows the opposite. In this track is perhaps where we hear the greatest variety of instruments and styles, for the ears is impressive.
