(ESP-ENG) La música en el mundial y su bajo éxito | Music at the World Cup and its low success 🎧
Hello friends, good vibes to all.

Hello everyone, it's been a long time since I've been here, even though music is a part of my life every day. Sometimes you take a break to rethink things, and that was my case; I hope to gradually return to my old ways. The reason for my presence is that, as you know, the World Cup has kicked off, and with it, everything related to its songs and the large number of artists featured in this edition. The issue of the "official" World Cup song has always been a topic of debate among fans because it's become an integral part of the World Cup experience. In 2026, things have changed a lot, but is that for better or for worse? That's the question.
"Dai Dai" is the song chosen by FIFA as the official anthem of this World Cup, and yes, the performer is Shakira, along with Burna Boy, a Nigerian singer-songwriter. But that's not all; in addition to her, we have a lineup of artists that easily reaches 20. The problem, for me, is the lack of identity and the fact that more isn't always better. Music, like football itself as a sport, has lost its essence, becoming a business where money is king. Italy 1990 World Cup: just one song ("Un'estate italiana"); France 1998 ("La Copa de la Vida"); Germany 2006 ("The Time of Our Lives"); South Africa 2010 ("Waka Waka"); and so on. All these songs transcended time, so why isn't that happening now? Put "Un'estate italiana" and any of today's songs on a musical staff, and you'll see why.
What I mean is that these songs, from Brazil 2014 until now, come and go without making a splash. None of these tracks, including "Dai Dai," have the same impact on people as the ones mentioned earlier. I don't know if it's the low quality of musicians these days or the terrible monotony of almost everything sounding the same, but none of the songs, out of the more than 20 from this World Cup, are truly catchy or even popular. And we're talking about artists of the caliber of J Balvin, Belinda, Jelly Roll, Daddy Yankee, Lisa, Anitta, Danny Ocean, Shaggy, Andrea Bocelli, David Guetta, 21 Savage, Tyla, The Rolling Stones, Travis Barker, Mayor Lazer, Megan Thee Stallion, and many more. I don't want to get into the endless argument that things were better back then, but yes, friends, I firmly believe they were, and these songs are the best example.
The fact that a lineup like the one mentioned earlier couldn't even begin to emulate what Gianna Nannini and Edoardo Bennato, or even Ricky Martin, did is cause for concern. This is what happens when music is made simply because it's a commission or for money, instead of out of genuine passion or love for the art. Frankly, for me, everything related to music at this World Cup is a complete failure. It shouldn't be, given the names involved, but it is; it's all just noise. What changes this narrative somewhat? - IShowSpeed. Yes, this streamer who decided to release his own track, despite not being a world-class musician, and which FIFA authorized for inclusion on the official album.
We're talking about a guy who traveled the world, immersed himself in the football culture of each country, and used that to create the song, plus he's a die-hard football fan. And yes, this can definitely compete with "Dai Dai." This is precisely the difference between things done with passion and those done just for money; everything ends up being empty and monotonous. Shakira perhaps understands what people like, that particular sound; perhaps that's why "Dai Dai" is Waka Waka 2.0. And that's fine because if it works for her and the song ends up being a hit, why change the formula?
When things were genuine, they were much easier to consume and reached people faster; mass-produced things get lost along the way. That's why a song from 36 years ago is still probably the best song in World Cup history. I'd like to hear your opinions in the comments—whether this is just my perception or a reality we all understand and recognize. I've also included the legendary songs from Italy '90 and France '98 in case anyone doesn't remember them, so you can simply compare.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos escuchamos en la próxima!
Well folks, that's all for today. I hope you enjoyed it.
¡Hugs to everyone, see you next time!
I think it is a highly accurate musical criticism that exposes with courage the commercial wear of current football melodies
Not just in football, but in music in general. There's nothing new; everything is mass-produced, which is why it all sounds relatively the same.
