Is it possible to tell a story or part of it in just 3 episodes? - Well, that's what Another World, a spin-off of the movie Hello World which I told you about a few months ago (Hello World), is trying to do. Before getting into this plot I read about the way this should be seen, some people say that it is first this and then the film, others say the opposite but the reality is that it doesn't matter how you do it because in the end you will understand everything without problems, in fact this group of chapters is a complement to give a little more depth to the film. We are facing a melancholic story where the absence of that special someone can mark life forever.

Es posible contar una historia o parte de ella en tan solo 3 episodios? - pues eso es lo que pretende hacer Another World, un spin-off de la película Hello World de la cual les hablé hace unos meses (Hello World). Antes de adentrarme en esta trama leí acerca de la manera en cómo se debería de ver esto, hay quienes dicen que es primero esto y después el film, otros que aseveran lo contrario pero la realidad es que da igual como lo hagas porque al final vas a entender todo sin problemas, de hecho este grupo de capítulos es un complemento para darle un poco más de profundidad a la película. Estamos ante una historia melancólica en donde la ausencia de ese alguien especial puede marcar la vida para siempre.

As I was saying, this is about Naomi Katagaki, a young man who in his childhood/youth meets Ruri Ichigyou, a very enigmatic classmate that everyone was afraid of or respected because of the way she was. There was something Naomi liked about her and we all know that when that happens there is no turning back. He treated her well, sought in his own way to please her, to make her happy and she, being so introverted and closed, gradually opened up allowing Naomi to remain close to her. They are both book lovers, in fact they work in a library, so it was thanks to them that they were able to find common ground and make everything flow.

Como les decía esto trata acerca de Naomi Katagaki, un joven que en su infancia/juventud conoce a Ruri Ichigyou, una compañera de clase muy enigmática a la que todo el mundo le tenían miedo o respeto por su forma de ser. Hubo algo que a Naomi le gustó de ella y todos sabemos que cuando eso pasa no hay vuelta atrás. Él la trataba bien, buscaba a su manera de complacerla, de que fuera feliz y ella, siendo tan introvertida y cerrada, poco a poco se fue abriendo permitiéndole a Naomi seguir estando cerca de ella. Los dos son amantes de los libros, de hecho trabajan en una biblioteca, por lo que fue gracias a ellos que pudieron encontrar puntos en común y lograr que todo fluyera.

In these three chapters we see a jump in time from the younger Naomi to the adult. The theme here is that something happens to Ruri, something that leaves her bedridden, it looks like a coma. This completely changes Naomi's attitude and personality, he is now a grumpy, stubborn, conformist man, he doesn't want to be with anyone and he doesn't care about anything. But this change has a reason for being beyond the obvious and that is that he is working in a laboratory on a project that promises to help Ruri, in what way? - they don't explain it but one can guess how. The way these episodes are made is very nice, everything is CGI, this does not take away from the fact that the details are well taken care of.

En estos tres capítulos vemos un salto en el tiempo del Naomi más joven al adulto. El tema acá es que a Ruri le pasa algo, algo que la deja postrada en una cama, pareciera un coma. Esto cambia por completo la actitud y personalidad de Naomi, ahora es un hombre malhumorado, obstinado, conformista, no quiere estar con nadie y todo le da absolutamente igual. Pero este cambio tiene una razón de ser más allá de la obvia y es que él está trabajando en un laboratorio en un proyecto que promete ayudar a Ruri, de qué forma? - no lo explican pero uno puede suponer como. La forma en cómo están hechos estos episodios es muy bonita, todo es con CGI, esto no le quita que los detalles están bien cuidados.

There is an important sensitivity in the whole atmosphere of the story, in one of the chapters we only hear a voice-over, his voice, accompanied by soft music which makes that nostalgia and melancholy that I spoke of very noticeable. It is clear that it does not take something very elaborate to connect with the viewer, watching this half hour that lasts a total of three episodes, we can empathize and understand the path that Naomi is traveling without Ruri. A path that is hard and difficult but also shows the importance of that person for someone, Naomi could have given up and found someone else, as they show here, but he did not.

Hay una sensibilidad importante en toda la atmósfera de la historia, en uno de los capítulos solamente escuchamos una voz en off, la de él, acompañado con una música suave lo que hace que esa nostalgia y melancolía de la que les hablé se perciba mucho. Es claro que no hace falta algo muy elaborado para lograr conectar con el espectador, viendo esta media hora que duran en total los tres episodios, podemos empatizar y entender el camino que está recorriendo Naomi sin Ruri. Camino que es duro y difícil pero que también demuestra la importancia de esa persona para alguien, Naomi se pudo haber rendido y haber encontrado a otra persona, como lo hacen ver acá, pero él no lo hizo.

The movie ends in a way that this OVA can answer several things, that's why it's a very good complement if you really enjoyed the film. In case you haven't seen it, it's okay, watch this first and then jump to Hello World. In this mini anime Naomi is emphasized more, her attitude and her way of being in the film is understood a bit more. Regret, sadness and listlessness but with the conviction intact that she can save Ruri are things that are evident in it. They may be contradictory but at the end of the day they are complex feelings. I highly recommend this, it's very cool, has a well detailed futuristic aesthetic and in the end the story is worth enjoying.

La película termina de una forma en la que este OVA puede responder varias cosas por eso es que es un muy buen complemento si de verdad disfrutaste el film. En caso de que no lo hayas visto pues no pasa nada, ve esto primero y después saltas a Hello World. En esta mini anime se enfatiza más a Naomi, se entiende un poco más su actitud y su forma de ser en el film. El pesar, la tristeza y el desgano pero con la convicción intacta de que puede salvar a Ruri son cosas que se evidencian en él. Pueden ser contradictorias pero al final del día son sentimientos complejos. Esto se los recomiendo mucho, es muy cool, tiene una estética futurista bien detallada y al final la historia vale la pena disfrutarla.

I haven't seen it, but you've left me intrigued! The fact that they manage to tell such a deep story in such a short amount of time, and that it also complements the film, is a great idea.

The truth is, I haven't seen Hello World either, but what you've told me makes me want to watch this mini-anime first and then the film. I really like it when characters have contradictory but complex feelings; it makes them more real. Thanks for the recommendation! I hope I give it a try soon.

If you plan to watch this you can do it any way you want, some will tell you a different order. I think the story comes through and is understood the way you see it. The characters are interesting, especially the main character, he suffers a lot to save her no matter what he sacrifices along the way.

It is worth it!

Pretty interesting. Is it all CGI? I'm not a big fan of that style of animation and I often recoil when I see an anime done that way but I think I'll give it a chance. Cheers : )

I'm not a fan of CGI either, but it doesn't look too bad here, it barely passes the test. The animation isn't bad but the style is a bit annoying. Otherwise the story is very cool.
