MUSIC (Video): Finding my Second ever Music Video for my original song: "Love Letter in Time of War" "

Hello everyone on HIVE. I am writing to you from Cape Town, South Africa! As I mentioned in my other recent Music post (https://ecency.com/hive-193816/@jasperdick/music-video-rediscovering-my-first), I was going through my computer files recently to try and find some buried treasure!

Recently, I have been getting back into writing and performing my original songs. I remembered a time, over ten years ago, when a friend, Craig Gainsborough Waring, came to visit me in Cape Town and shot footage of me playing a couple of the songs I had already written by then.

Craig was a film student in Auckland, New Zealand, and chose two of my songs to make little music videos for when he got back home after the visit. “Every Friday Night” was the first, and “Love Letter in a Time of War” was the second.

I have just placed the video for “Love Letter in Time of War” on Youtube. I wrote it years ago when my then-girlfriend, now-wife, Julia was away from home for 6 months and I was missing her desperately. It is also a War Protest song, and is sadly still relevant today, due to the conflict currently happening in places like Ukraine and Yemen.

The hero of the video is a soldier missing his lover at home, and just wanting to get back to her.

For all the guitarists out there, perhaps you noticed that I am using two capos rather than just one? I am surprised more people don’t do this trick! It allows you to get a deeper root note on a C chord (in this case where the capos are 4 frets apart) or on a D chord (if I space the two capos two frets apart). Basically, it is almost like an alternate tuning without doing the work!

Another interesting thing? I can play harmonica on a rack in the style of famous folk musicians like Bob Dylan or Neil Young, which seems appropriate for a protest song, but I do play harmonica on some of my more bluesy songs as well!

I’ve been gathering all of my original material together, because for the first time in ages I am playing a gig where I need to provide about 2 hours of mostly original material. My old school friend @Clairemobey will be joining me in the second hour to help me sing some of my songs and covers, and we will also be singing some of her beautiful original songs, such as “A Song of Hope”, which she has recently shared on Ecency/Hive here:

The venue owner has just informed me that the venue is fully booked. It seems that our friends and family have really rallied together to support us, which makes me so happy!
