MUSIC: Three Tune Tuesday 70 - 3 Songs about "The Crazy Ex!" (2 Covers and an Original!)

Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town, South Africa.

This is my fifth week contributing to "Three Tunes Tuesday", started by @ablaze.

I am trying to stick to a set pattern, where I perform 2 cover songs (written by famous artists) and 1 original song (written by me) around a theme. This week I've chosen the emotionally-charged theme of a crazy ex who can't let go of the past!

Please forgive my lack of microphone and amp this week! I am on a week long work trip into the Karoo, but I have managed to bring my guitar with me! My location today is the bathroom of my guesthouse, as I hope that some sound bounces off the walls to you!

For the first song, I've chosen something I remember well from being a kid in the 90's, and being rather shocked by the profanity of Alanis Morisette, as she sings from the perspective of the crazy ex who can't accept that her former lover has moved on in "You Oughta Know"!

Here's the original:

For the second song I go even further back to Gloria Gaynor telling her former lover that "I Will Survive" even though she's "just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your face"... This is probably one song that I can play in public and bet money that somebody in the audience wants to sing along! Everybody loves this one! Here's the original!:

Finally it's time to tone down the tempo with my own original song called "Old Flame". I hope you enjoy it!

Lyrics

A knock at my door... A shiver on my skin...
I've been through this before... I'll say it all again...

No Old Flame, not again
I can't let go, 'coz you say so
I remember how you walked away... like it was yesterday
Now your return will cause more pain, and break my heart again...

Why do you come here when I'm weak? I'm usually so strong... It's like you always know...
It makes it hard to speak, without getting it wrong, but here I go...

No Old Flame, not again
I can't let go, 'coz you say so
I remember how you walked away... like it was yesterday
Now your return will cause more pain, and break my heart again...
Old Flame! I don't want to hear your name... (ever again)
**

So, what theme will I choose next week? See you then!

THE END

This is definitely a contender for my very favorite song if yours. You had me in tears the last time I heard it live.

Of course, everyone knows I LOVE "I will Survive" and I've covered it many times. That Alanis song was such a massive part of my teen years! I still know all the words!

Dude, I absolutely love it!! Rolling power cuts and being away with work did not stop you from bringing us a Three Tune Tuesday set!! All I can say is thank you very much.

I sincerely hope those in adjoining rooms paid top dollar for this free gig that I hope they could hear through their walls, great idea too playing in the bathroom for some bouncing acoustics off the walls. The covers were excellent and cool hearing two female-singer songs in a male voice for a change, but in all honesty your original Old Flame was the cream of the crop and the top of the pops. I loved the finger picking and the sincerity of the lyrics, a beautiful song straight from the heart.
