Hello everybody on Hive and especially the PukoMundo Community! My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you the backseat of my car in my office parking lot in Cape Town, South Africa (it’s supposed to be late summer)! This is Week 60 of “The Singing Voice” or “La Voz Cantante” challenge!

So, the aim of the game is to play a rock cover, or perhaps a cover of a genre that led to the formation of rock music.

Last week I did a cover by quite a hard-rock band from the 90’s called Silverchair. This week, let’s chill things down with a softer rock band. One of the more popular bands of that sort that I haven’t got around to covering yet is Coldplay. Should we give them a go, with their song “Green Eyes”? It is very suited to a solo acoustic guitar cover!

Here is the original:

Goodness me, now that I listen to it I realise that my version is a bit more bouncy and upbeat! This tends to happen with a lot of songs where I emphasize the rhythm!

**By the way, I am doing a weekly post on Thursdays where I ask for cover song requests in the comments, and then if I attempt your song in the following week's post, you become a beneficiary to 50% of the post's rewards in HP! Please think of a song you’d like me to try and look out for my Thursday posts! **

Lyrics for “Green Eyes” by Coldplay

Honey, you are a rock
Upon which I stand
And I come here to talk
I hope you understand
The green eyes
Yeah, the spotlight
Shines upon you
And how could
Anybody deny you?
I came here with a load
And it feels so much lighter now I met you
And honey, you should know
That I could never go on without you
Green eyes
Honey, you are the sea
Upon which I float
And I came here to talk
I think, you should know
That green eyes
You're the one that I wanted to find
And anyone who tried
To deny you must be out of their minds
Because I came here with a load
And it feels so much lighter since I met you
And honey, you should know
That I could never go on without you
Green eyes
Green eyes
Oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh
Honey, you are a rock
Upon which I stand

Y vengo aquí a hablar
Ojos verdes
Cariño, eres el mar
sobre el que floto
Y vine aquí a hablar
Creo que deberías saber
esos ojos verdes
Ojos verdes
Ojos verdes
oh-oh-oh
oh-oh-oh
oh-oh-oh
oh-oh-oh
Cariño, eres una roca
sobre el cual estoy parado

You marvelled me alot sir @jasperdick

How you still create time out of work time for music is amazing. Lunch break for rest and probably gist among partners and colleagues but you chose to use that time to wow us

Am inspired honestly to say I wish to also move in that pace.💪✌️🤝

Ah dear - looks like I won't get to today's song until AFTER work this time... but still probably from the back-seat of the car - hahaha!

You've always been doing very well @jasperdick

And I admire your love for music to create time out of no time to still do something.

It's commendable 🤝

I love Coldplay and I think you did a great job with this cover.
I'd like to know a bit more about your creative process in preparing it. How did you come to choose this song? Do you use the same general score for the song or do you look for a specific guitar score? Or do you come up with it on your own? Keep it up, your covers are awesome.

Thank you so much!! I do look for general clues about the structure of the song, but after playing it for a while it usually lands up drifting slightly more and more into my style of playing, if that makes sense?

I see, I find that very interesting and of course it makes sense, at least for me it makes all the sense in the world since each person gives his own touch and has his own style of doing things, this applies whether in music, drawing, writing or whatever one does. Excellent friend, keep it up.

Coldplay is one of my favorite bands, this specific song is not the one I listen to the most but I still love it; your version is great, as you say, more lively and cheerful and that's something that gave it a plus. Great job as always. Cheers!

Truth is - this is what slowly happens if I play a song more than I listen to it... it slowly comes out sounding more and more like my style?

You have an incredible voice and you make an interpretation full of feeling. Excellent in addition, the environment, from the car, gives a nice air to the video heh heh.
